The Harriers are continuing to find ways of keeping athletes focused and are holding a 2 mile and 4 mile Time Trial Individual Competition on Saturday July 4th for all those who wish to enter. Well over 50 athletes have already entered and it looks to be shaping up to be another cracking weekend for the Club. (Details here)

In the meantime athetes are continuing to find innovative ways of setting themselves challenges in the absence of competition. Last weekend – Saturday 20th June – Jonny Murphy who ran 36 miles in on run for the Lands End – to – John O’groats Club run weekend, decided to take on the 3 Peaks- posting a pretty good time of 3hrs 47. Afterwards he spoke to the Club about it telling us that With no races on the calendar something I’ve been doing over lockdown is setting my self challenges to keep the motivation rolling. So fresh of the back of the Blackburn Harriers Lands End to John o’groats challenge and completing the 3 towers ultra route I was feeling in good shape and super confident to take on the Yorkshire 3 peaks! I quickly found out climbing up pen-y-gent why this race is so infamously tough to complete with 3 brutal climbs and many tricky sections. I managed to complete the route with a moving time of 3 hours 47 minutes with a couple of stops along the way to take in the beautiful Yorkshire scenery. Skip to Monday morning Just having my morning coffee taking a look on strava only to see Callum smash the same route showing me how it’s done! Shaving nearly half an hour of my time And on his birthday too! Wow”.

A couple of days later – Callum Davidson – who ran Saturday and Sunday in the  Lands End – to – John O’groats Club run weekend, covering some 25 miles, told us that he had been disappointed to find that the Race had been cancelled for this year. Today – Monday June 22nd was Callum’s birthday and he decided to give himself a present by going and running the 3 Peaks and didn’t hang about about clocking a very fine 3hrs 20. Speaking to the Harriers Callum told us that he was “Looking a bit worse for wear but I decided to treat myself on my 23rd birthday to a blast round the Yorkshire 3 PeaksAbsolutely gutted that both the race in April and postponement in September were cancelled but it gives me the perfect opportunity to get another years of training under my belt ready for a serious race attempt. I’ll take 3:20 in a training run mind’
