Glorious weather greeted the athletes at this years Pendle Fell Race which incorporated the Lancashire Fell Championships.

First off were 32 animated and excited Under 8 runners and it was a joy to see them enjoying themselves for the few minutes that the Race took. First girl home and winner of the Girls Race was our own Alayna Irivine –  8th overall (and who never stopped running for the rest of the day!!) followed by Kate Cookson in 11th place and an excellent 4th place in the Girls Race.

The next Race for Under 10’s had 57 – 30 Girls and 27 Boys – runners in it with just 8 seconds separating the first four. Eleesha Charnley our effervescent 9yr old had a great run to come home 16th overall and 4th in the Girls Race. Amy Davies making her debut on this type of terrain had a really good run to finish 32nd overall and 11th in the Girls Race.

In the Under 12’s Race – 67 runners with 28 girls and 39 Boys – Hannah Cookson courageously set off like a rocket and was in 3rd place overall at the top of the first climb. However that effort took its toll and Hannah slipped back to 29th overall and 8th in the Girls Race and a fine 3rd in the Lancashire Championships winning a Bronze Medal.

22 Girls and 20 Boys line up for the Under 14’s Race, which provided Blackburn with its second victory of the day so far and first Lancashire Champion. Grace Handley, who is in sparkling form finished 8th over all and won the Girls Race and the Lancashire title. Grace was backed up with fine runs from Natalya Irivine 11th overall, 2nd Girl and 2nd in the Lancashire Championships; Deni Impett 18th overall, 5th Girl and 3rd in the Lancashire Championships; Megan Clarkson 31st overall and 13th Girl; Esme Pearse in 35th place and Georgia Turgoose in 37th place.

A second Championship of the Day was won by Jack Hindle with a cracking run in the U16’s, finishing first overall to win the Lancashire Championships with a 50 second gap to second place. Rhiannon Wickham 9th overall and Phoebe Howe 13th overall finished 1st and 2nd in the Championships providing the Club with its 3rd Championship winner of the day so congratulations to them.

In the Senior Race – 340 runners lined up at the start with Rob Hope (32:13) – Pudsey & Bramley AC winning and Victoria Wilkinson (35:19) – Bingley Harriers the Women’s Race in fine style.

Good runs from the Harriers with two Women and 9 Male athletes. Two of the Men were making their debut – Chris Davies who really enjoyed it and Middle Distance athlete Rob Warner who didn’t and decided to put it down to experience and one not to be repeated he said!!

Chris Barnes led the Harriers team home finishing 29th overall (37:19) and looking strong; Gary Pearse 47th (39:06); Mat Nuttall 64th (40:31); Chris Davies 91st (42:41); Helen Leigh 103rd (43:53) and Bronze Medalist in the Lancashire  Championships; Joseph Howe, mixing it with the Seniors for the first time and doing really well in 107th (44:20) and winning the Silver Medal in the Championships; John Orrell 145th (47:04); Paul Wilkinson – fresh from competing in the Carr Hill Triathlon at Kirkham last week where he finished 14th out of 44 competitors – finished 193rd (50:40); Stuart Furness 200th (51:06); a resurgent Jackie Taylor 234th (53:22) and Michael Nolan 259th (55:24).
