Matt Ramsden and David Holman were selected for the North of England team that competed in the Welsh Athletics U20 International on Wednesday evening August 17th at the Morfa Stadium in Swansea. (Details of Events).
Matt was entered into the 3000m featuring 6 athletes, the race being won by Corey Campbell (Scotland) in a time of 8.18.40 with Matt in 2nd place clocking 8.22.65, just over a second outside his best (8.21.16) which has him at number 16 in the National Rankings. Speaking to the Harriers after his race Matt told us “Over the moon to represent the North of England at the Welsh International and I am happy that I had a strong run. It was a great experience with hopefully more to come.”
David was one of five athletes entered into the Mile race – a distance he had never run previously – which was won by Northern Ireland’s Nick Griggs in 4.02.58 with 2nd,3rd and 4th places separated by just six tenths – David placing 3rd in a time of 4.18.53 placing him at number 10 in the National Rankings. The Harriers spoke to David after his race, asking for his reaction, to which he responded “It was a great experience and one I will always remember. Very pleased to get the chance to wear the England kit and represent them. First time doing the mile and it was a pretty solid race, very happy to come away with 3rd place in a very strong race.“
