The wind blew and the rain came down, but it didn’t seem to deter the athletes who put in some really good performances and PB’s despite the dreadful conditions.

The sprinters got the best of the conditions with a following wind. In the Senior Men’s 100m Paul Coffey raced to a new PB of 11.20sec in finishing second, knocking two tenths of a second off his previous PB of 11.4 set just a week ago in the Northern League. He added a second place in the 200m as well (23.60). Mick Angland took ‘bragging rights’ over Ben Aspinall in the second 100m Heat, winning in 11.90sec with Ben second in 12.00sec. Both athletes cut two tenths of a second off their previous PB’s. Hayley Cander in her first race for a long time came in fourth in the Senior Women’s 100m (14.30sec).

In the U17 Men’s 100m, bottom of age Archie Braysford in his first race this season took second place with 11.40sec, setting a new PB by a tenth of a second and shows he is in good nick. In the next Heat, Jake Almond also reduced his PB by a tenth to take fourth place in 11.50sec and then went on to equal his PB in the 200m winning in 23.20sec.

The U15 Boys 100m had two new members  to the Club and Mid Lancs debutants competing – Nicholas Massey who ran 12.70sec (4th) and Hanzala Hanif 13.10 (4th), both solid runs and really good efforts. Hannah Cookson took on the 100m in the U15 Girls and placed 3rd cutting her PB from 14.1sec to 13,90sec. Then in the 800m she knocked another 4.5secs off her PB to finish 4th in 2.28.20. In two weeks she has reduced her 800m PB by nine seconds and is great reward for the training and effort she is putting in. Maddie Elliott looking strong and training really well reaped the benefits when she also contested the 800m –  placing fourth and setting a huge PB by nearly twenty seconds in 2.34.50. In the U13 Boy’s 100m Sam Farnworth was a midges off his PB finishing 3rd in 14.40sec and then tackled his first ever 800m (9th) in a solid 2.44.30. Sam then added 5cm to his High Jump PB recording 1.15m (3rd). In the same 800m Heat Jimmy Walpole ran 2.51.30 and reduced his PB by three seconds, another great effort in the conditions and Daniel Brown ran 5.55.70 in the following Heat. U15 Boy Tom Greene tackled the 800m and ran 2.31.40 which was a new PB by over a second and a half. U17 Huzaifa Hanif, who runs the 400m, took on the 800m and ran really well for 2.24.20 (5th) with the extra distance taking its toll towards the end.

U13 Girls Amy Dowsing in her first ever Track Race and Olivia Blow ran in the 100m with Amy finishing 3rd (15.90sec) and Olivia 5th (15.50) in their separate Heats. Olivia’s time was a new PB by well over a second. Emily Warren took on the U13 Girls 800m with fourth place (2.40.20) and then finished second in the 200m (30.40) in her first ever Race over 200m and 6th in the Shot Putt (5.67m).

SONY DSCSenior Men’s 400m weren’t so lucky with the wind but that didn’t stop Jack Lonsdale having a really good run in third place (53.8sec) and just a fraction away from his PB. Better conditions and there is a new PB in there no doubt. John Chaplin ran in the Senior Men’s 1500m which as you can imagine wasn’t an easy run with the wind and rain and came third in 5.12.10. Bottom of age U13 Amy Davies and in her first Track season after a very successful campaign over the Cross Country, ran in the 1500m and finished a good fourth (5.40.30).

It was a “Father and Son Wilkinson day” in the Throws. Dad Paul Wilkinson contesting the Senior events finished 5th in the Shot Putt (7.09m); second in the Discus 19.80m and won the Javelin with a Throw of 30.23m.  Over to U13 Oliver Wilkinson who won the Discus (13.88m); the Javelin (20.97m) and took fourth place in the Shot with 5.83m. Interesting journey home in the car!!

Rebecca Orrell was at it again with another PB in the U17 Women’s Hammer (3kg) winning with a throw of 46.46m which added another 28cm to her Throw at the YDL recently. U17 Connor Davison took on all three Throws taking second places each time with 10.05m in the Shot; 20.24m Discus and 25.05m in the Hammer. In the U15’s Jacob Roberts won the Hammer with 33.26m and took 2nd in the Discus with 23.71m. Cameron Massey won his Shot Putt with a throw of 9.65m and brother Nicholas Massey finished fifth (8.23m). Cameron then equaled his High Jump PB with 1.45m (3rd) and finished 5th in the Long Jump (4.56m). Nicholas jumped 4.25m in the Long Jump (9th) and Hanzala Hanif 4.14m (11th). Eloise Littlefair took on the the Shot Putt winning with 8.56m and a PB by 7cm before placing 6th in the Javelin (15.06m) and Long Jump (12th) out of 27 athletes in the Heat (3.56m)and the latter two events which she hasn’t competed in before.
