Sincere condolences to Mike’s family and friends from everyone at Blackburn Harriers. We are all sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. He was a loyal stalwart of Blackburn Harriers and the Northern league team for many years in the 1990s into the 2000s. He was never afraid to chip in on the throws as and when needed but that aside he was a talented thrower year in year out. He continued competing well into his veteran years at European and World Masters events winning medals and breaking club records. He was a proud Blackburn Harrier and always kept us updated on his latest throws despite injuries sustained. The photo below shows him at his happiest next to his fellow club throwers by the side of the cage. This was taken at Cleckheaton at a Northern playoff match – from the left Richard Bury, Mark Birchall, Mark Haydock and Mike Hazelwood.
