Monday evening June 3rd was the setting for the latest series of BMC races held in Leeds, which had three Blackburn Harriers competing – U17 Oliver Gill, U15 Jack Baranowski and Senior Joe Gebbie. (RESULTS). Joe went in the 800m C race, this being only his third track race of the year, having suffered with an injury over a period of time. His opening race saw him win the Lancashire County Championships 5000m followed by a 3rd placed 4.03.3 in the Northern League West Premier Division match a week later. At Leeds Joe clocked 1.55.87 to place 3rd. Oliver entered his 800m D race with a personal best time of 1.58.97i run at the National Indoor Championships in February. In Oliver’s first outdoor 800m race of the season, he knocked over three seconds off that time as he won his race in a new PB time of 1.55.61. Jack was running in the 800m E race and was the only U15 among U17, U23 and Senior athletes. This was Jack’s fourth 800m race of the season which has seen him start off with 2.04.22  followed by 2.03.18 and 2.02.5 in the UKYDL Lower Age group Match in Leigh on May 19th. Here Jack set himself another new PB with a time of 2.02.27 which has him at 12 in the National Rankings.

Oliver Gill

The Astley Trail Series of races for seniors and juniors, are set in the picturesque grounds of Astley Hall in Chorley and take pace on the first Wednesday of every month from May to August. The second race in the  Series was held on Wednesday June 5th – the race being won by Tom Murphy in 20.31 with the winner of the Women’s Race – Rachel Sidebottom running 25.06. . (RESULTS).  Chris Davies was the first runner home for Blackbiurn Harriers in 7th place, running a time of 21.35 followed by Marco Pacelli in 14th spot with a time of 23.54. Rebecca Ward had another good run just nine seconds behind the Women’s race winner as she took 2nd place with a time of 25.15 and first V40. Just two Junior Women in the race and the first one home was Hollie Cubbon in 27.21 and in the Junior race featuring 8yr olds to 15yrs –  Lyra Krige placed 5th overall out of 44 runners in a time of 5.14.
