Helen Leigh doesn’t seem to pick any easy Races. Her latest competitive venture was in the Langdale Horseshoe and she described it as “another cracking race at the weekend! 7th Lady at Langdale Horsehoe in 2.47.27…..and creeping up those rankings”.

Cambridge University Hare & Hounds

Zac Howe, back at Cambridge University lined up with other athletes in a 5k Race organised by The University Cross-Country Running Club. Zac finished 9th (15.58) in a field of 99 and said that he “wanted to prove to Richard that i can run a 5k without getting a nose bleed”

Lea Town 10k

Just back from holiday, Tom Blaney went over to the Lea Town 10k at Preston on October 13th  finishing 7th out of a field of 96 runners and in a time of 36.06

Helwith Bridge Duathlon – 13th October 2013

Eighty Seven competitors lined up in this Duathlon – (Run and Bike) – and Shaun Livesey was amongst them. Finishing 6th overall in 2hr 03.53 Shaun with  the Bike Ride part of the Race in tough and windy conditions, Shaun nevertheless ran the joint fastest time of the day (23.11) on the first run and the 2nd fastest time of the day on the second run in 25.38.

Shaun told us that this was “my first attempt at the discipline…… I was found wanting on the bike in tough windy conditions, with the top riders putting 9 mins into me………It was a very strange feeling running after working hard on the bike. I was first into t1, then 8th after the bike then made up 2 places on the run”.

And still on the bike was Andy Buttery in the Calderdale Mountain Bike Marathon (26.2miles/3200ft) last weekend.

Andy finished 12th out of 290 finishers and was really happy with his performance on the day saying “I was 18minutes faster than last year when I finished 34th clocking 2hrs 21mins (my target had been sub 2.30). The winner did it in 2hrs 4mins…..Very tough event, but really enjoyed it and looking forward to the cross country season now“.

Sarah’s Tour!!

Sarah Ridehalgh who competes for the Club on the Track has been busy recently competing in Macclesfield, Rivington and Coniston.

At the Macclesfield Half-Marathon on 29th Sept with 587 finishers she (Results) finished an excellent 11th overall (85.53) and was 2nd lady behind Olivia Walwyn from Norwich. On to the Rivington Half-Marathon Trail Race a week later (Results) where there were 345 finishers – Sarah went one better in this Race by winning the Women’s Race and came 15th overall in a time of 1.34.08. Last of these three events was the iconic Coniston 14 road race on 12th October (Results) – in a field where 980 runners completed the race, Sarah had another good run to finish 22nd overall and 2nd Woman in a time of 1.30.38, just 28 seconds behind the winner Eleanor Fowler of Nuneaton Harriers.

Swedish Masters

Mike Hazlewood, a long standing member of Blackburn Harriers living in Sweden now, is still competing in the V65 Age Gategory. This year Mike has  “only managed 2 comps – the less than inspiring UK Indoors & the Swedish Masters at Gavle over 16 – 18 Aug. Mixed results – shot 10.89 (3rd), discus 39.95 (2nd), hammer 38.43 (3rd), jav 32.45 (4th) & weight 15.14 (3rd). Overall I was quite pleased, despite falling on my face in jav & weight!”

No mean achievement to still be competing at the age of 67yrs and with one eye on the rest of the Clubs activities, Mike said he “was delighted with the Harriers success and well done to everyone”. With one eye on the rest of the Club’s activities Mike was delighted with the BBH sucess – well done to everyone”
