Karl also finished as part of the Bronze Medal winning Team of St Mary’s and was pleased as this was his second medal of the New Year, having won a Team Gold at the County Championships in Blackburn on January 3rd when the Harriers beat Salford into second place. After the Race Karl told the Club that “I finished 18th at BUCS yesterday and managed to pick up a bronze team medal. I had a really bad 4/5 minute spell which cost me a few places. I managed to finish strong on the last lap I got the last counter spot for the team“.

Rob Warner (Loughborough) also ran in the Men’s ‘B’ Race but sadly, as with a number of other athletes over the recent period, got struck down with illness telling usI wasn’t able to finish the race yesterday at bucs. I got quite ill on Friday night and was sick quite a lot during the night and didn’t feel very well on the day of the race either. I thought I’d still give it a go seeing as I was there but just had nothing and was way off the pace from the start and was just going backwards”.

Welcome Tavern 10k

Three Blackburn Harriers turned out at this Race which proved to be a little controversial in that the 293 athletes were sent round the course in such a way as to add extra distance to the length of the Race making it 6.6miles and not 10k. This was particularly irritating for Samantha McCreadie who had run a PB at the correct 10k marker and was 3rd Woman overall in 28th place. So to be credited with a time of 41.39 wasn’t what she wanted to see on the Result Sheet. Laura Hesketh was 4th Woman and 33rd overall with a time of 42.43 and V60 Evan Cook won the V60 1st Prize placing 36th in 43.08.

Fantastic day for the three athletes from Blackburn Harriers who all performed really well for Lancashire and were a credit to the Club and the Lancashire Team on the day. Nikki Charnley who was there on the day told us that “The boys finished 3rd overall 1point behind 2nd place and 20 points behind 1st place. Girls finished 1st place overall.  Myah Booth worked very hard in her relays allowing Lancashire to gain valuable points. Eleesha Charnley won first place in her long jump with a distance of 209 cm and first place in her heat for high stepper. Both Kieran Carroll and Eleesha performed in the Grand Prix relay and both ran really well“.
