Tuesday June 9th saw seventeen Blackburn Harriers involved in racing over 800, 1500m, 3000m and 400m Hurdles at Trafford, on an evening that started off windy with the threat of rain and finished up cool, no rain and not as windy as was first feared. With personal and seasons best times recorded by the athletes, it turned out to be a very good night for them. (RESULTS).

Starting with the 800m races – which is where the bulk of the Harriers athletes raced – there was bagful of new personal bests. Sam Aspey went in his race, having already set new best times over 800 and 1500m this season, and ran himself another new PB of 1.57.73 in taking 4th place in his race, having had to take the race on on the first lap. Matt Haxton, Max Belshaw and Jack Wood, all U18’s, raced in the same Heat, resulting in Matt placing 3rd in 2.01.93 and just missing a new personal best by two tenths, and that after getting boxed in. Matt has already brought his 800m time down by some six seconds this year. In 5th spot came Max who set himself a new PB of 2.02.18 and he too has brought his personal best down by some five seconds over last year. In 6th place came Jack – also clocking a new PB of 2.02.77 which was a massive improvement of five seconds this year, having also produced new personal best over 1500 and 3000m. Ethan Cutler ran 2.04.24 in his race (7th) and another athlete who is reaping the rewards of consistent work over the last couple of years, posting new personal bests this season in 400m, 800m and 1500m. George Holman made it the fourth new personal best on the night as he clocked a new PB of 2.09.40 in 4th place and another athlete who has reduced his 800m time by five seconds this season. George was followed by the fifth as Keira Haxton clocked a new PB time of 2.20.19 in 7th spot in her race.   Lottie Hesketh and Isabelle Perry lined up in the final 800m race of the night – Lottie never having run the distance previously – where Lottie clocked 2.27.48 in 2nd spot alongside team mate Isabelle in 4th running 2.29.20.
