What a good week for athletes at Blackburn Harriers as we move towards the end of the track & field season.On Wednesday August 6th U20 Oliver Gill made the trip to Loughborough to run in the 1500m B race featuring 20 athletes. The race, won by Felix Vaighan in 3.53.73 saw 10 new personal bests and among them Oliver who clocked s new PB of 4.00.67 – placing 10th overall and 4th U20. (RESULTS).

On the same day U17 Tamzin Osborne competed at the Vault Manchester Summer Series 2. Tamzin was in a Pool of seven athletes, among which was Imogen Ayris – the New Zealand athlete who placed 12th at the Paris Olympics. She won the competition with a clearance of 4.60m – the pool consisting of two senior, two U23’s one U20 and two U17’s. Tamzin posted her second highest clearance outdoors with 3.15m and second of the two U17’s, both of whom cleared the same height. (RESULTS)

Over the weekend – August 8 – 10th – Blackburn Harriers athletes Sam Aspey, Kai Addison and Matthew Sharples were all competing in the Age Group Championships at Alexandra Stadium. U17 Sam Aspey was in a straight Final over 1500m featuring 8 athletes – the race being won by Burton’s Ewan Withnell in 3.53.87, the top four all posting new personal bests. Sam came home in 6th spot with a new PB of 4.03.56 which is a seven second improvement over the course of the season. Bottom of age U15 Kai Addison was in the 300m and set himself a new PB of 38.83 in the Heat, which qualified him for the semi-final on the same day where he clocked 40.27 in 9th. First year U17 Matthew Sharples had just returned from holiday and lined up in the 400m, running 53.57 in 6th place. U17 Tamzin Osborne was at the Championships in the U17 Women’s Pole Vault competition where she placed = 9th place with a clearance of 2.92m, rounding off a season where she has improved her personal best to 3.25m and 10th in the National Rankings.  (RESULTS)

Saturday night and Trafford was the venue for the latest BMC Frand Prix – World Athletics Challenger meeting, taking place on a warm and pleasant evening. U20 Abigail McAndrew ran in tne Women’s 800m A race and came home in 5th place with a new PB of 2.05.44 and amongst the prize money. Abigail later paced the first six laps of the Women’s 5000m and Oliver Gill, was also involved in pacing two separate races. U17 Agatha Taylor was one of two U17’s in the Women’s 800m E race featuring two senior and two U20 athletes. Agatha clocked 2.17.05 in 6th place and 2nd of the two U17’s. Ross Harrison was next up in the 1500m Men’s C race and clocked himself a new PB time of 3.48.04 in 3rd place – the race producing five new personal bests and two seasons bests in the first seven places. Matt Ramsden was also racing over 1500m – this time in the Men’s C race – and was looking forward to if after competing at the British Championships a week earlier over 5000m. Matt was rewarded with a new PB of 3.46.23 in 3rd place, the race being won by Ireland’s Colin P Smith (3.45.50).  The Men’s G Race had U20 Ben Stratton and going in, Ben had a personal best of 3.54.67. Coming home in 6th spot, Ben set himself a new PB – the fourth of the night so far – of 3.53.94. U20 Isabel Holt was also among the personal bests – as were the first five athletes in this race – Isabel placing 5th in a new PB time of 4.28.24 and the fifth new personal best for Harriers athletes on the night.

Out on the road Katie Buckingham who is due to take on a 50km race shortly ran at the Run Media City 10k race on July 31st  and posting a time of 44.51 in 14th spot, whilst U23 Kiera Booth ran in the same race, placed 38th in the Women’s race with a time of 51.23. (RESULTS)
