A warm almost windless evening greeted athletes at the latest running of the Grand Prix at Trafford on Tuesday evening July 7th. First up were the U16 1500m races, the first of which featured Blackburn Harriers Benedict Raby – many congratulations to him as he crossed the line placing sixth out of 13 with a new PB time of 4.23.13. Moving on to the 3000m races where U23 Isabel Holt and V45 Louisa Powell-Smith were in the first and second Heats – Isabel running a seasons best time of 9.42.20 in Heat 1 and Louisa setting herself a new PB when clocking 10.26.35 in Heat 2.

First up in the 800m races was Ben Makin in Heat 1 – his first of the season – clocking 1.55.49 in 3rd place. Heat 2 had senior Ibraheem Kantharia and U18 Max Winstanley on the start line – Ibraheem clocking 2.00.36 and agonisingly close again to breaking two minutes followed by Max one place further back, clocking 2.01.16. Heat 3 saw a win for U18  Henry Ward who front ran the most of it, finishing in first place with a new PB time of 1.59.14 – a massive four second improvement. Adding to the personal bests run on the night – U18 George Holman who set himself a new PB of 2.09.05 followed in Heat 5 by U23 Keira Haxton clocking 2.24.73 and in heat 6 – U18 Lottie Hesketh placing 3rd with a time of 2.28.52 just a second outside her personal best. Final race in the 800m races featuring Harriers athletes came with the BMC combined A & B race where U23 Abigail McAndrew clocked 2.06.79 in 2nd spot – just tenths outside her seasons best to-date. Finishing as always with the 1500m races – Heat 1 had U18 Sam Aspey in the race running a time of 3.59.44 in 6th place and just half a second outside his best, followed in Heat 2 by U18 Jack Wood clocking 4.13.90 in 4th spot – just over a second outside his best. Final race of the night for the Club featured Matt Ramsden in the BMC A race, paced by Blackburn Harriers Daniel Bebbington. Matt went into the race with a personal best of 3.46.23, this being his first 1500m race of the season. Leading with 200m to go St Albans Dillon Smith and Norways Ole Jacob HA,staland Solibu pulled up on his shoulder producing a battle up the home straight – Matt clocking a new PB time of 3.43.13 in 3rd place – an improvement of just over three seconds.
