Uclan with its blue track was the venue for the penultimate fixture in thjis years Mid Lancs Track & Field league held on Saturday August 3rd. (Provisional Results). A number of Blackburn Harriers young athletes turned out on a warm but breezy day posting 13 Heat and/or overall wins, five 2nd and four 3rd places as well as setting eleven new personal bests. U13 Seren Gooden ran a new PB in her Heat of the 100m (14.4) alongside Alyssia Michie running 16.2 in her Heat. U13 Hannah Moore set two new PB’s – in the High Jump clearing 1.20m and in the Long Jump with 3.64m in addition to clocking 31.7 in the 200m. In the U15 Girls events Dana Juma set a new PB in the Shot Putt in winning with 9.21m as well as jumping 3.89m in the Long Jump alongside team mates Grace iLunga with 4.11m, Imogen Boardman jumping 4.05m and Holly Moore with 2.22m. On the Track U15 Imogen Boardman clocked 47.2 in the 300m whilst Grace iLunga set herself a new 200m PB of 29.5 as Evie Fort clocked 29.2 and Holly Moore 30.2. In the 100m Dana Juma ran 13.8 in Heat 1 whilst Imogen Boardman won Heat 2 in 13.6 as did Evie Fort who won Heat 3 in 13.8 with Grace Ilunga in the same Heat 3 clocking 14.2 – Heat 4 seeing Holly Moore run 14.4 which was a new PB with Bella McCredie doing the sprint event for the first time, clocking 14.5. After running the 100m Bella & Evie  took on the 800m – Bella clocking 2.38.4 in 7th and Eveie 2.50.0 in 10th.

Olivia Thomasson continued her winning season as she took first place in the U17 Women’s Javelin with 30.28m with team mate Kady Thompson throwing 23.59m in the Senior Women’s Javelin competition. In the U17 Women’s Sprints Alisha Lehner clocked 14.2 in the 100m and 28.6 in the 200m – in middle distance, U17 Isabelle Perry was just a tenth outside her personal best as she clocked 5.20.5 in 3rd place and a pretty good performance given the impact of the wind on anything from 300m races upwards. In the Senior Women’s races U20 ‘s Niamh Gater and Kiera Booth ran with V40 Rebecca Ward in the Senior Women’s 200m – Rebecca’s first ever attamept at the distance – which saw Niamh come home in 29.5 (8th), Rebecca 29.8 in 9th and Kiera 10th with a new PB of 30.4.

Zakariya Haq placed 4th in the U13 Boys Shot Putt (6.23m) and jumped 3.14m in the Long Jump whilst in the Throws, Reggie Johnson came 3rd in the Discus with 9.65m and 5th in the Javelin (16.95m). In the Sprints, U13 Oliver North had never run the 100m but nevertheless, won his Heat in 13.5 and placed second overall – U13 Callum McKone setting a new PB in his Heat of the 100m with a time of 14.6 as team mate Oliver Threlfall clocked 14.6 in 4th spot in his Heat. U15 Keir Michie had a fine day setting new PB’s in the 100m (12.0) winning his Heat and winning overall as well as winning his Heat of the 200m in a new PB of 24.1 and again, winning overall. Jack Baranowski doubled up in the U15B’s 800m and 400m clocking 2.10.1 in winning the 800m and shortly afterwards clocking 55.6 in 3rd spot in the 400m – his first attempt over the distance as George Holman clocked 2.22.9 in the 800m (5th).

Loucas Lancashire was very close to his personal best in winning the U17 Men’s Javelin with a distance of 38.48m whilst on the track, U17 Daniel Bretherton came 2nd in the 400m in 54.3 and Charlie Palich was just five hundreths outside his personal best as he won the U17 men’s 100m Heat and overall too,i n 11.2. Stepping up to 800m U17’s Henry Ward ran 2.11.4 in 5th spot alongside team mate Loucas Lancashire clocking 2.23.4 in 10th whilst in the 1500m Logan McCredie grabbed himself a new PB – despite the wind – clocking 4.30.3 in winning. U17 George Camara was the sole competitor in the U17 Men’s High Jump where he cleared 1.50m. U20 Samuel Mutombo was just nine cms off his personal best in placing 2nd in the Senior Men’s Long Jump with a leap of 5.93m and on the Track V40 Dominic Bretherton was just three tenths off his personal best as he clocked 2.20.7 in 5th place in the Senior Men’s 800m.

Away from Track & Field – at the latest races put on by the Burnley & Pendle Grand Prix Series, some of Blackburn Harriers youngsters continued to compete in the Junior races – the latest of which was the Worsthorne Moor Junior Trail Races held on Sunday August 4th. (RESULTS). In the U13 Race – races inlcuding male and female runners – Theo Addy came home in 4th place running 10.08 with Ryker Hanson in 6th (10.23). The U15/U17 Race was won comprehensively by Jack Wood in a time of 14.50 with team mate Liam Bennison in 10th running 19.30.
