The first outing for Blackburn Harriers athletes at Indoors saw a number of the junior athletes participating at the Sportcity Winter Series last weekend on Sunday December 1st. (Sportcity Results). Kicking off proceedings in the 60m with a new PB of 7.40 was bottom of age U20 Jacob Fisher placing 3rd in his Heat. U17 Isabella Finn then made her debut over the 60m and had a cracking result, winning her Heat in 8.41 alongside teammate Claudia Longton racing in the same Heat in her debut for the Club and over the distance – placing 4th in 8.77. Bottom of age U17 Lydia Knowles – in her first season for the Harriers – clocked 57.49 as part of her debut over the 300m indoors followed by Claudia Longton in her second race of the day, posting 46.70 (4th) in her 300m Heat and again, a debut over the distance. Bottom of age U20 Logan McCredie ran his first ever race indoors – over 600m – clocking 1.28.19 in 5th spot and there was also an indoor debut for Matthew Haxton over the same distance – 600m – clocking 1.30.76 in 6th place. Bottom of age U17 Bella McCredie also had her first taste of indoor racing when she lined up for the 600m, coming home in 4th spot running 1.51.70. U15 Millie Jordan was another young athlete trying out the indoors – also over 600m – finishing 3rd in a time of 1.40.30. Isabella Finn finished off the day in fine style – placing 4th out of a Long Jump Pool of 24 athletes with a leap of 4.68m.
Still indoors and this time in America where Blackburn Harriers David Holman is at Wingate University. David was running his first indoor track race at the weekend – over 3000m – in Boston – featuring a very large field indeed with 22 athletes, which meant that David had to move round on every lap. He came home in 9th place and first for the university with a massive new PB of 8.08.11 – reducing his previous best time by 42 seconds. Cracking start to his indoor season for sure.
On the Road it was the Blackburn 10k organised by RunThrough which is becoming increasingly popular and this year featured 1343 finishers. Despite the dire weather warnings that had been circulating for a couple of days, that didn’t deter the runners from turning out. (RESULTS). The race was won in 32.10 (Reece Brown) followed in 2nd spot by Matthew Lowe in 2nd (32,57) and Liam Devlin in 3rd (33.05). First athlete home for Blackburn Harriers and 2nd V45 was Chris Davies in 20th spot (35.34) followed by Chris Marsden who was running only his second 10k, posting a new PB by 43 seconds (38.04) in 50th place followed by V55 Paul Guinan running 38.50 and 3rd V55 on the day. Then came Steven Willetts running his first race for the Harriers in 185th spot in a time of 42.03 followed by Vikki McKinlay running 65.49 (317th) in the Women’s race – and – In the Junior RunThrough event which had 39 youngsters in it Jenna McKinlay was the first girl home in 3.10 and 5th overall.
