When the going gets tough, then Helen Leigh gets going. Just a week after the Three Peaks Race she entered the Coniston Fell Race with 403 other runners. Finishing 165th overall and 13th Woman she was pleased with her performance especially being so close to the Three Peaks where she came home as 2nd Woman and commented “13th.. couple of places higher than Pendle and with 3peaks in my pins quite pleased with 1hr 30. Next stop intercounties followed by the beast that is ENNERDALE…”

Great Hambledon Fell Race Sunday May 4th

Eleven Harriers started this Race featuring 255 runners and won by Richard Burney of Liverpool Harriers in 37.08.

Matt Lalor held off Andy Buttery by just nine seconnds to take 4th place overall (40.08) with Andy 5th (40.17) and taking the V40 First Prize. On April 30th Andy had won the Davina Raidy’s Birthday Brownhouse Wham Dash in a time of 16.05.

V40 Shaun Livesey who had finished 4th in the Valiants Half-Marathon in April with a PB of 75.48 was next in (14th) in 42.55, followed closely by V50 Michael Toms in 20th (43.37) and V45 Gary Pearse 29th (44.34). Allan Hartley finished 46th (46.38), V45 Jonathan Bridge 49th (47.02), Chris Barnes 85th (50.22), Andy Heys 96th (51.49), V45 Ian Clarkson 111th (53.24) and V65 Stuart Furness 166th (58.05). Stuart had also competed in the Radcliffe MT 10k at the end of April placing 228th (51.33)

Avenham 5k Sunday May 5th

Sixteeen year old Joe Monk is having a cracking year and producing some great times. He recently ran 34.26 in the Salford 10k, then set a 16.53 PB at the Welcome Tavern 5k and on Bank Holiday Monday reduced that a little more at the Avenham Park 5k (16.48) and was fourth overall out of 216 other runners. In the National Rankings for U17’s Joe is now in 4th place for the 10k and 16th for 5k which is a great achievement. Bride to be Louise McCauley got back onto the racing scene in the same race with a solid 54th place in 22.32.

Sheriff 10k Sunday May 4th

Great to see FV40 Pauline Powell back on the Road racing in this one. She was one of three Harriers who competed in a field of 122 runners finishing in10th place overall (38.51) and taking the Women’s First Prize. V40 John Cookson is chasing a 10k PB – currently 43.06 – came close again with 43.22 (30th) and given that it isn’t the easiest of courses, the PB is ready to be taken for sure. V50 David Morris 96th in 57.31 had reason to be delighted with his run as he knocked over two minutes off his PB. At the end of April, David had tried the Welcome Tavern 5k and ran 28.35.

Hollingsworth Lake 5k April 21st

In this popular local Race featuring 135 runners and won by Ian McBride of Salford Harriers (15.51), Laura Hesketh finished 33rd in 20.27.

Halewood 5k May 3rd

Andy Heys started off the year with a 19.02 PB for 5k which he reduced to 18.12 in the North West Grand Prix 5k Series and in this latest race, took it down another notch with a 5th placed 18.00. Sub 18 minutes definitely next time.

Triathlons

After his epic performance in the Hawaai Ironman World Championships last year, this weekend saw another win for Brian Fogarty who is really making a name for himself in the Tri-athlon world. With 34min 10k and 2.45 Marathon times under his belt, it is not surprising and watch those times tumble in the next couple of years.

This year he hasn’t stopped winning, taking the England National Age Group Championship Title in the 30 – 34yrs Age Category.

In March Brian won the Parbold Duathlon with Paul Guinan in 3rd place and winning the V40 category. Then in In April he won the Ulverston Triathlon by nearly two minutes in a Race which had Mark Bleasdale in 7th place overall and Matt Nuttall in 21st out of a total of 225.

There were 325 finishers in the Horwich Pool Triathlon on Sunday May 4th and Brian came out on top winning yet again. V40 Paul Guinan had a quality Race to finish in 4th place overall and first V40. Male Junior Jack Hindle took 13th place in what was a really good performance in claiming the 2nd Male Junior Prize.
