St Annes Carnival 5k – July 6th
One hundred and eighteen runners in the Main Race and sixty nine in the Fun Run lining up on a glorious day for running. The main 5k Race won by Rob Danson (16.38) had a number of Harriers competing with U17 Joe Monk leading them home in 7th place overall (17.26) and first U20 Male. Right behind him was Chris Davies in 8th (17.37) which was a PB by twenty seconds. In 28th place overall and first U15 Female was Grace Handley in her first ever attempt at the distance finishing with a solid (20.23).

In the Fun Run, the Davies Family were out in force with mum Lindsay and both daughters Amy and Hannah. Amy had a stormer of a Race finishing 4th overall in the sixty nine strong field and first girl home in a time of 5.37 on a measured course of 1500m. Sister Hannah finished in 28th (7.48) and mum Lindsay =easing off one place behind her in 29th (7.49).

Tockholes Evening Run Run – July 3rd

This new Race started on Weasel Lane, opposite Tockholes Village Hall, went down Donkey Brew, across the dam and up the concrete path opposite the Waterhouse and then across the field and along the path to Westland Avenue. Right into the top Bold Venture Park at the scout hut and up on to the path past ‘Geds Bench’. Down Lyon’s Den, past ‘barking dogs’ farm. The route then crosses the dam and retraces the outward route to the finish on Weasel Lane.
Allan Hartley and Ian Clarkson decided to give this new Race a go along with seventy four other runners. Some sharp running at the front end saw Joe Mercer win in 36.21 from Rob Hope in second place (38.00). V40 Allan who is racing everywhere at the moment finished in 18th spot (43.30) and V40 Ian (44th) 49.12.

Just seventy runners in this Race won by Stuart Robinson in 15.30. Laura Hesketh competed for the Harriers and had a really good run finishing 19th overall (19.24) and won the Women’s First prize.

Ironman in Austria – June 28th
A number of Blackburn Harriers are members of the FITT recently formed Triathlon Club with some talented athletes. Brian Fogarty (98th) 9hr.16.52 and a new PB – Paul Guinan (572nd) 10hr.33.06 and Matt Nuttall (431st) 10hr.12.33 completed the Ironman in Austria.

The lads were really pleased and said “Fantastic efforts with a PB for Brian Fogarty in 9hrs 16 min, and with no marathon training due to injury Matt Nuttall, and Paul Guinan still finished with 10:12 and 10:33. Incredible!! only 10 days to go until they go again at Ironman UK!!”
The Ironman UK includes a beautiful lake swim in Pennington Flash.There are numerous viewing opportunities for spectators at the start and T1. Cyclists will embark on a 112-mile, two-loop journey from Pennington Flash and onto the breathtaking Lancashire countryside. The bike course now includes the infamous Sheep House Lane climb where spectators can get up close and personal with the athletes in true Tour de France style.The run begins at T2 at the Reebok Stadium and athletes will head into Bolton town centre, where they complete three loops of a circuit before finishing in Victoria Square in the shadow of the Albert Hall.
