Consistency and winning is what stands out in Sophie Hitchon’s competitions in 2013. Winning the British Athletics Hammer Circle Winter Trails at Loughborough on 2nd March with a throw of 70.34, Sophie backed that form up in April with a 3rd place 69.54m at the  Mt. SAC Relays in California on 20th April – won the Brutus Hamilton International again in California with a throw of 69.67m and then finished off the month with another win at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational in Palo Alto, California, throwing 70.53m.

In May, Sophie, top of the National Rankings, has carried on where she left off in April. At her first competition, she competed for England at the Loughborough International on Sunday 19th and won again with another 70m plus throw (70.52m).

Slipping under the radar at the same fixture with a season’s best and personal best was Rob Warner. At the BUCS Trials in April he finished in 9th place (4:09.58) but has demonstrated a big improvement on that form last weekend. In a 1500m race at the Loughborough International – his second outdoor run of 2013 – he knocked 5 seconds off that run and in the process lowered his 1500m time from his previous PB of 4:06.38 to 4:04.53 which is great early season form.
