Sophie Hitchon today – at the 2016 Rio Olympics – went into the final throw of the competition needing to throw a personal best to get into the medals. Showing absolute focus and a steel like determination, Sophie smashed her own British National Record, posting a new personal best of 74.54m in a career defining moment.

What she achieved in the Olympic arena is what she deserved for all of the hard work, determination, sweat, tears, highs and lows over the last 8 years. She is an inspiration to everyone in the Blackburn Harriers and to all young athletes everywhere.

Sophie joins Samantha Murray as the second Blackburn Harrier to have won an Olympic Medal.

She is living proof that there are no limits.
