Poppy Preece and Matthew Smith were out at Sportcity at the weekend for the second of this years Indoor Meetings at Sportcity which turned out to be a good day for both as they contested the maximum three events each. U20 Poppy took on the 60m, 60m Hurdles and High Jump whereas U15 Matthew went in the High Jump, Long Jump and Shot Putt.
Starting off in the 60m Poppy clocked 8.69 in 3rd spot just a tenth outside her previous best alongside setting a time of 11.36 (5th) in her first ever competition in the 60m Hurdles. Finishing off with the High Jump she cleared 1.45m in 9th place overall out of a Pool of 25 athletes ranging from U13 through to U20’s.
Matthew was in a Pool of 14 in the High Jump and the only U15 among U17, U20 and U23 athletes. Clearing 1.60m, this represented an impovement of 10cms over his first competiton in this year Indoors, jumping 1.50 in early December. Similarly in the Long Jump, Matthew was one of only two U15 males in the 27 strong Pool of U17, U20, U23 and Senior jumpers and cleared 4.58m. In his Shot Putt he added over half a metre to his previous best to set a new PB of 8.06m.

Dexta Thompson (U17) took to the roads at the weekend racing in the Runthrough Aintree 5k (RESULTS) – his previous best over the distance being 18.24 at Lancaster in 2019 and the last time he raced the distance. Dexta came home with a very good run in 3rd place out of a field of 164 runners, chopping a huge minute and half of his best for a new PB of 17.00.
