Tim Wins the Podium 5k – Wins for Zac and Joe at Park 5k Runs and other Park 5k Results

Podium 5k

With the weather taking its toll on this years Ribble Valley 10k the hurriedly convened Podium 5k provided the opportunity of a run for a number of the athletes who had been looking forward to racing at Clitheroe. Twenty five runners took advantage with six Blackburn Harriers among them.

Winner of the Race was the in form Blackburn Harrier Tim Raynes in a new PB time of 15.43. Next home for the Harriers came Jack Hindle in 7th place and again with a new PB of 16.28, cutting nearly half a minute off his previous best and tucked in just behind (8th) was Andy Buttery in a time of 16.36 and 1st V45. In 10th place was 2nd V45 Matt Nuttall in 16.41 followed by Brian Fogarty in 15th place (17.28) and Jonathan Bridge – 3rd V45 – in 19th spot (18.21).

Park 5k Results Round Up

A big turnout of 329 runners at Stretford on New Years Day saw Joe Monk kick off 2016 in style at the Stretford 5k Park Run winning the race in a time of 17.51.

On Boxing Day at Witton Park a hardy number of 38 runners braved the atrocious weather with father and daughter combination – John and Hannah Cookson – renewing the family rivalry. U15 Hannah took all the points on the day finishing 5th in 24.16 whilst John came 7th in 24.19. The last 100metres was probably fun!!

The Park run was on again at Witton Park the day after New Years Day with a slightly bigger turnout of 95 runners and among them eight Blackburn Harriers.

First in for the Harriers and 1st Junior Woman was Maddie Elliott who ran this for the first time placing 8th in 22.12. Just behind her came Amy Davies (10th) in 22.51 followed in 13th by Hannah Cookson (23.20). Another youngster doing this race for the first time was Jamie Teare coming home in 15th spot (23.28) and followed in by Katie Buckingham 16th (24.02). V55 Mike Blacklidge ran in 24th in a time of 27.06 with son Matt one second behind in 25th (27.07). News on the grapevine is that dad felt sorry for son and helped him in! Jan Buckingham placed 31st in 28.20, David Billington finished 40th in 29.49 and Lindsay Davies 46th in 30.53.

Over at the Park 5k Bolton – 02/01/2016 – the Howe family were out in force lining up with 263 other runners. Zac Howe won the Race beating Tom Carson, but we don’t have a recorded time for him, brother Joe Howe had a good run, setting a new PB on the Course, finishing 4th with a time of 18.14 with dad Mike Howe 153rd (29.58).  Stuart Furness V65 was also out for a run coming in 138th (28.58)

Liz  Greenwod was out on the same day at Burnley in another big field of 233 runners and she came home in 11th place  – 1st Junior Woman and 1st Female home in 20.03.

Good to see Grace Handley back out having a run after quite a long period out of action through injury. Grace lined up with 259 runners at Preston on January 2nd and had a solid run in 26th spot with a time of 21.40.
