It was BMC night at Stretford on Tuesday – 16th July – and Karl Billington posted a season’s best in the 1500m B Race with a time of 4.00.31. Tom Cornthwaite (runs for Blackburn on the Track) also posted a season’s best of 4.05.43 in the 1500m C Race.

More Harriers were out competing on the same night in the Grand Prix Races. U20 Zac Howe was another Harrier to set a season’s best with 1.57.16 in the 800m and just two tenths off his PB. U17 brother Joseph Howe went one better setting a new PB for the 800m of 2.09.55 whilst sister Phoebe Howe ran 2.30.65 in her 800m race. Robert Warner contested the 3000m and set a season’s best of 8.56.32, an agonising two hundreths of a second off his PB. Josh Tighe who competes for Blackburn on the Track ran the same race in a time of 8.40.3 which was very close to his PB and just just two seconds off.

On The Road

Sweltering weather and hardly conducive to distance running greeted the 410 athletes who entered and ran the Windmill Half-Marathon on Sunday July 14th. Just one Harrier made the trip – the continually improving – Chris Davies – and posted a PB of 81.12min, knocking a massive 13 minutes off his previous Half-Marathon run in January 2013.

In the We Love Manchester 10k held on the same day – 1500 runners braved the scorching conditions and amongst them were a number of Harriers women athletes.

Samantha McCreadie in her first ever 10k Road Race finished an impressive 97th overall in 41.23 which was an excellent debut. Backing up Sam were U17 Ella Gregory in 373rd position (47.53) and Kaylie Panaro in 474th (49.11).

At the St Annes Carnival 5k on July 7th 157 runners lined up with Chris Davies placing 10th (17.57) bottom of age U17 Joe Monk came in 13th (18.13). Katie Trickett in her first race for some time won the Women’s Prize for first lady home in 29th (19.55).

On the same day, John Cookson ran the Catforth 10k and was 47th out of 176 finishers in a time of 44.46.

The day before – July 6th – Chris Barnes 3rd (17.14) and Pauline Powell 7th (18.12) and winner of the Women’s 1st prize ran at the Catforth Cantor 5k.
