Blackburn Harriers Jess Warner-Judd has been working her socks off preparing for her Marathon debut in New York at the weekend. Training at the track at Witton Park, some of her sessions take your breath away, often being one of a double session day. Reaching somewhere in the region of 125 mile training weeks, there was little doubt about her tenacity and commitment in making sure she was ready for her Marathon debut – on hardly the easiest of courses either – and inspiring to a lot of young athletes who can see the effort she puts in, her work mentality, consistency and example she sets.

Lining up with some of the best marathon athletes in the world – Hellen Obiri who won the race, Sifan Hassan, Sheila Chepkirui – the field didn’t phase Jess as she had an amazing debut, finishing in 7th place with a time of 2hr 24. 45 just two seconds behind the legendary Sifan Hassan. What a performance! When the Club spoke to Jess after the race, she told us in her usually very modest and humble way “Honestly can’t believe it! Training has been really tough but I knew I was fit, I just didn’t know what that would translate to for a marathon and especially a tough one like New York! Just really happy, those last 4 miles were so painful but to finish in 2:24 – I’m honestly shocked! Loved the whole experience, it was amazing!”
