Paul Coffey doubled up in the 100 (12.1) & 200m (24.6) which were slightly down on his recent good form. V50 Phil Hall was at it again, mixing it up with the youngsters in the 800m for a season’s best (2:09.50).
A number of the athletes contested the Throws events including Shanteep Sivarajah, Connor Davison, Rebecca Orrell, Jacinta Davison, Gareth Johnson, Cameron Massey, Elizabeth Ashcroft and Corie Shorrock
In the Shot Putt, Shanteep posted a PB and took 3rd place with 9.83m and Corie came 4th with 9.22m. There was another 4th place for Corie in the Discus (17.94m) – and in the Javelin Shanteep won the event with (44.61m). Connor took 2nd place with a cracking new PB of 10.68m in the Shot Putt but was a little down on his best with 24.63m (4th) in the Discus and not far off his PB in the Hammer with 26.21m (2nd).
Rebecca took 3rd in the Shot Putt (7.75m), 2nd in the Discus (27.94m) and won the Hammer Throw with 31.45m. Jacinta also had a go at the Throws with a 3rd place in the Shot Putt (7.33m), and a 16.33m effort in the Hammer. U15 Elizabeth chanced her arm with a 6.59m Shot Putt as well, a little bit down on her PB.
U15 Cameron, who is setting himself for competing for Lancashire this coming weekend in the Pentathlon was just four tenths outside his 800m PB with 2.29.60; got a new PB in the High Jump (1.35m) and then went on to another PB (7.79m) in the Shot Putt.
Gareth Johnson won his 100m Race in 12.1 but admitted to ‘switching off’ a little which lost him the chance to challenge his PB 0f 12.0secs. Next Time!! Whilst it was good conditions for the Sprinters, for the Middle Distance events, the wind did them no favours. But this didn’t stop Jack Hindle from posting a new PB of 4:35.50 (2nd) in the 1500m who ran a very sound tactical race. In the U15 Boys 1500m, Byron Abbott, like Jack, ran an excellent tactical race, his best to-date on the Track, judging it almost to perfection and won with a time of 4:40.10 – in the same Race Thomas Harbour also ran really well equalling his PB of 4:44.4 for 3rd place and having posted the same time just 10 days ago, Thomas is clearly in good nick. Rhys Charnley ran 2:47.10 in the U13 Boys 800m.
There some really good performances amongst the Women as well on the Track. Grace Handley ran a good 3rd in the U15 800m ((2:27.50) just under two seconds off her PB in trying conditions. Katie Buckingham who is in a great run of form doubled up in the U17 Women’s 800 and 300m. In the 800m she came 2nd (2:33.40) and in her first ever 300m won it almost on the line because of a refusal to be beaten (45.50) the same time as given to 2nd place. Another young U15 athlete who doubled up was Charlotte Taylor in the 100 and 200m. Her first ever competitive 100m race saw her come in with a time of 13.80, but in the 200m, her stronger event she came 2nd (27.90 and same as the winner) knocking half a second off her PB in the process. In the U15 Girls Long Jump there were 30 contestants – Morgan Angland (4.32m) for 4th place and Elizabeth Ashcroft (4.13m) 7th, jumped just below their PB’s. Ben Aspinall, another athlete who has been breaking his PB’s recently and Gareth Johnson also went in the U17 Men’s Long Jump with Ben winning (5.42m) and Gareth 3rd (4.48m). Ben then went to double up in the Triple Jump winning it with 12.01m.
