Liz Greenwood has had a brilliant start to the Cross Country season. She has contested all of the three Races in the Red Rose League at Leigh, Chorley and Bolton and the first one in the Mid Lancs League at Burnley and won them all.

In the U15 Girls Race, Liz led home the Harriers team of Megan Clarkson (5th) and Rose Abbott (17th) to take the 2nd Team spot behind winners Rossendale.

At the Bolton fixture, a number of Harriers also competed in the difficult conditions. Jamie Teare who has also had a very impressive start to his Cross Country season in the U11 Boys, took a really good 7th place, just 25 seconds behind the winner – Coel Mellor of Leigh Harriers and one second behind 6th placed Shea Mellor of Leigh Harriers. Brother Rory who is much younger, is also competing, finished 42nd in the field of 72 youngsters.

In the U11 Girls Race, Amy Davies continued with her own impressive performances to finish 3rd in the 76 strong field, 12 seconds behind the winner – Penny Townsend of Horwich. In Amy’s two other Red Rose fixtures, she finished 2nd at Leigh and 4th at Chorley again to Penny Townsend. In between the Chorley and Bolton Red Rose fixtures, she competed in the Mid Lancs at Burnley and won that. Amy Dowsing who is also improving took 20th place and with Alayna Irvine taking 48th place.

Natalya Irvine, looking as though she has got over her recent injury and health problems had a good run in the 54 strong field of U13 Girls, finishing 6th and backed up with a solid run from Hannah Cookson in 12th position.

Just two athletes in the U17 Men’s Race attracting a small field of 20 athletes. Robert Wong who said “it was tougher conditions than last year” had a solid race and took 8th place, followed home by Robert Buckley in 9th who also ran strongly.

In the Men’s Senior Race, with 205 runners, the Harriers fielded eight – Stephen Chew in 8th overall; Paul Guinan (15th) ; Tom Blaney (20th); John Sutton (40th); Allan Hartley (119th); John Cookson (133rd); Ian Clarkson (155th) and Richard Taylor (164th). Sixteen Teams had full squads of counters and the Harriers, led home by Stephen took 6th place. Paul, who is getting back to good form after an injury free period won the V40 category by quite a margin and he looks set for more good runs over the coming winter.

 Ras Rhobell fawr fell race

This was the 11th Rhobell Fawr fell race and apart from a brief hail shower the weather held out, with good visibility. Beckie Taylor had a good day, competing against 43 other runners, all but three of them, Seniors. Overall Beckie took 18th position and in the process was first woman athlete home to record the win over Becki Law of Eryri Harriers in 2nd place and Sarah Edwards of Ilkley Harriers in 3rd.

Windmill 10K  at Lytham St Annes – November 9th 2013

Chris Davies is very much in form and improving all the time. 668 runners lined up for this local 10k Race and Chris was a whisker away from winning it when he posted a new PB in finishing 3rd (35.48), the same time given to second placed Nick Gaskell from Clayton Harriers and just eight seconds behind the winner, Michael Hunt of Trafford AC.

Through the Villages Race at Wheelton – 3rd November 2013

This is not a Race that boasts an easy Course. Yet 286 runners turned out to compete in this popular Road Race won by David Rigby of Preston Harriers in a pretty good time of 47.07.

Tom Blaney for the Harriers also had a really good run in 8th place (50.02) with Chris Davies in 13th (51.26) and another good time. V60 Evan Cook, continues to clock up the prizes by winning the V60 age category, coming in 34th (56.42). Just pipping Evan in was Sarah Ridehalgh, who competes for Blackburn Harriers on the Track. Sarah in 33rd (56.34) took first place for the Women and first V35; And they say you can’t keep a good man down – Stuart Furness (V65) and still getting stuck in placed 170th (69.40) and 4th V65 overall.

Catching Up On The Weekend 5k Park Runs

Joe Monk won the Cuerden Valley Race – RESULTS – on 2nd November in a time of 19.51. The following week – November 9th – Joe  had an even better run – RESULTS –  to finish 2nd overall in 18.53 which was also a new PB.

At Burnley – RESULTS – on November 2nd, Liz Greenwood carried on her winning ways by taking 4th place overall and first Female position with a time of 19.16.

Phil Morton competed at the Preston 5k – RESULTS – on November 9th and came in 15th (20.59), just seven seconds shy of his PB in these Races.

At Preston – RESULTS – November 2nd, Grace Handley had a run out to take 10th place overall and First Junior Woman in a time of 20.07.

V65 Stuart Furness competed at the Bolton Race – RESULTS – finishing 47th (24.18) with son Gary in front of him in 8th (20.40) and Philip Morton in 20th (21.41).
