Sportcity was once again the venue for the second track and field meeting in tbis years Sale Harriers Winter Indoor Series which had a number of Blackburn Harriers competing in the weekend before Christmas. First year U20 Millee Schofield got her indoor season off to a flyer, winning her 60m Heat in a new PB time of 7.87 – two tenths faster than her previous bestafter which she came 2nd in the 300m running 41.01. Isabelle Hartley – also a first year U20 – ran successive 60m Heats in 9.32 (6th) and foillowed that up with a debut over 300m clocking 50.92 in 4th place. Matthew Sharples a first year U17 was making his debut for the Harriers and his debut over 60m posting 7.77 in his first race (5th) and then 7.86 (6th) in his second Heat going on to take 2nd spot in the 300m Heat in  a time of 38.37. Keir Michie another first year U17, was taking on the 60m indoors for the first time and started off with a ban, winning his first race in 7.70 and placing 4th in his second Heat with a time of 7.78 before going on to clock 39.93 in 2nd place in his 300m Heat and also first attempt at the distance. Jack Thompson, James McAuley and Alex Burns-Groves all went in the Heat won by Keir placing 4th, 5th and 6th respectively with times of 8.08, 8.24 and 8.28 – all three athletes making their debuts over the distance. Jack backed that up with a win in his second Heat clocking 8.11, with James in 2nd running 8.25. The two lads then ran the 300m – Jack clocking 43.15 in 3rd alomngside team mate James in 4th (44.76). In the longer distance of 600m Agatha Taylor posted a new PB in a good time of 1.36.86 in 2nd place and close to four seconds faster than her prebious best.

In the field events, as of today December 26th, the official results aren’t available on P10. U17 Tamzin Osborne ended the year in good style, clearing 3.00m in the Pole Vault in her first indoor competition this winter and her first competition since August when she competed in the Northern Championhips and Northern West Premier Division in the Northern League. In clearing 3.00m, Tamzin broke her own Club Record for the Indoor Pole Vault set earlier in the year at 2.85m. Bottom of age U17 Abdollh Shriha leapt out to 5.15m in the Long Jump after which, with team mate – also first year U17 – Alex Burns-Groves he cleared 1.51m in the High Jump with Alex cleraring the same height and Harvey Holden clearing 1.56m.

Evie Fort bottom of age U17 took 3rd spot in her 60m Heat in a time of 9.23 and then took 2nd place in her 300m Heat clocking 49.90. Another young athlete making her debut Indoors was first year U17 Holly Moore – coming home in 3rd position with a time of 8.87 followed by a trip over 300m in which she placed 3rd in a new PB time of 48.94, some three seconds faster than her outdoor 300m run during the summer. Kai Addison is a new member of the Harriers, this being only his second competition. This promising U15 ran 13.2 for 100m (2nd) and 23.6 for 200m (2nd) in his first outing in September and backed that up with his opening efforts indoors – winning his 60m Heat in 8.14 and his 300m Heat in 42.17. U20 Samuel Mutombo whose main events are triple and long jump was out in the 60m clocking 7.76 in 6th spot and then repeated that time of 7.76 in 3rd place in his second 60m Heat. Not finished there, Samuel clocked 41.17 in 4th spot in his 300m Heat. High Jump athlete Harvey Holden placed 4th in his first 60m Heat (7.79) and then beat that time in his second Heat running 7.72 in 2nd place. First year U20 Charlie Unsworth had a great day at his first Indoor meeting, running two 60m Heats, winning them both in 6.92 and a new PB of 6.88, the latter time being a new Club Record which Charlie held at 6.89 going into this meeting. Charlie Palich – in his first year as an U20 ran a massive new PB of 7.18 in his first 60m Heat in 3rd and then ran 7.19 in his second Heat in 4th spot. Charlie followed that up with a 2nd place in the 300m, clocking 36.51 for a new PB by nearly three seconds.  Another first year U20 – Aidan Downes – set a new indoor PB over 60m clocking 7.89 in 5th and then went and won his 300m Heat in another new PB time of 39.61m.

Holly Moore

Daniel Bebbington & Stephen Hall lined up at the Lancaster Power of 5k on Friday 13th December  – it being Daniel’s first race since July this year due to successive bouts of illness. On the night Daniel had a very good run to take the win in a time of 14.41 from Oliver Dustin in 2nd (14.54) and Sam Stead in 3rd (15.06).  Stephen came across the finishing line in 28th place 28th (16.27) and 1st V45.

Still on the Road and this time with Blackburn Harriers Katie Buckingham in the London 10k – featuring overover 3500 runners in the Women’s race  – won by Katie Brown in 35.48 from Emma Hingham in 2nd (36.06) and Helena Postigo in 3rd (38.01) – and it proved to be a worthwhile trip for Katie as she ran her fastest 10k for two years, placing 28th in 42.44.
