On a day which was probably the best weather we have had this year at a Cross Country fixture, it being the last one of the season, the Club had a small number of athletes out. Pride of place goes to Deni Impett in the U15 girls who was 2nd in the Race. In the series overall, Deni finished a fine 3rd just behind Grace Handley who finished 2nd overall – two more medals for the girls to pick up.
In the U11 Girls Amy Davies finished in 20th place out of 38 competitors; Rose Abbott 13th out of 28 runners in the U13 Girls; Jack Wilkinson 16th out of 39 in the U13 Boys; Byron Abbott 5th out of 22 in the U15 Boys; Morgan Philips 14th in the U17 Men; Chris Davies 49th out of 166 Senior men and Richard Taylor in 124th.

Matt Nuttall led the way for the Club this weekend at the Stanley Park 10k in Blackpool. Matt finished in 5th place overall and 1st V40 in a time of 34.04min. Sadly, Matt went and celebrated by falling off his bike the day after, breaking his collar bone in three places. Here is hoping for a speedy recovery. Next home in the Race was Brian Fogarty in 8th place (35.53) followed by Lisa Nuttall in a time of 56.07min.
In our last Post we said February was a good month for Vaulting. Well, Holly made March even better. What a tremendous performance in becoming the European Indoor Pole Vault Champion for 2013; And what strength of competitive spirit and determination not to settle for a joint share of the Gold Medal, but rather, try to win it outright which she did.
Following her victory, Holly said “I knew they had jump-offs but I’d never ever done one before”. I’m glad I took the option rather than share the medal. I was feeling good. I thought I could get myself together and win. I thought, ‘Why not take the risk?'”
Everyone at Blackburn Harriers is so proud of what she has achieved.
