Inter-Counties Hammer Record for Jacob – New PB and Club Record for Charlotte – Alison and Joe post new 1500m PB’s at Trafford – Mike wins British Master Championships
Northern Inter-Counties Championships at Hull – August 7th
Some great performances by Blackburn Athletes at the Inter-Counties at Hull over the weekend. U17 Jacob Roberts – 2nd in the Hammer National Rankings – won the overall competition with a throw of 65.03m and broke the Inter-Counties Record on three separate occasions on his way to the win. Jacob told the Club that he had “Been to Hull today representing Lancs in the inter – counties comp. I broke the inter – counties record three times today. My best throw was 65.03 . Good day all round from our hammer team”.
U15 Charlotte Williams, also 2nd in the National Rankings, followed suit winning the Hammer with a new PB throw of 55.89m and in the process broke her own Club Record. U15 Alex Bernstein came 3rd overall in his Hammer competition when he won the ‘B’ group with a throw of 38.86. Alex remains at 14th in the National Rankings with a PB of 42.69m. On the Track, bottom of age U17 Hannah Cookson came 2nd in the ‘B’ Group and 9th overall with a time of 2.33.46 in the 800m.
After competing for the Harriers in the Northern League at the weekend, winning the 400m and 1500m races it was good news for Alison Leonard who ran the 1500m at Trafford Grand Prix (August 9th). Competing in the Open Races Alison was pleased about her run and setting a new PB – finishing 8th in a field of 14 – and commented that she “ran 4:08:96, about half a second off previous best and hoping to go faster again at the Grand Prix on the 20th”.

BMC Gold Standard RESULTS
One place behind her came Joe Monk who has been setting new PB’s consistently this season. Joe knocked a whopping five seconds off his previous best to come home in 9th place with a new PB time of 4.10.13. Rob Warner entered the BMC Gold Standard 1500m and ran a time of 4.15.80.
BMAF Decathlon / Heptathlon, Throws Pentathlon Championships inc. Summer Classics
Mike Hazlewood is a remarkable athlete and is still competing as a V70. At the end of July Mike entered the British Masters Championships held in Birmingham and came away winning the Pentathlon Weight with a new PB of 3799 points which made him the British Champion in his Age Group.
Mike won all three of his events, taking the Shot Putt with a throw of 10.98m, the Discus with 35.69m and the Hammer with 38.56m. Afterwards Mike told the Club that “despite a good day weatherwise I failed to get the record (about 200 points shy) but I managed to win M70. I have another chance in Sept at Swedish TP”.
