Win for Alison and seasons best for Rob at BMC – New PB for Carly at Lancaster Half – Jack wins Darwen Gala – Horwich Jubilee Series – Letter from Shamiso
BMC Grand Prix – Stretford August 20th
Alison Leonard having set a new PB in the mixed 1500m at Stretford on August 9th was back out in a Women’s only 1500m on Saturday night, winning it comfortably in a time of 4.13.77. Her next Race is the 5th Avenue Mile in New York followed by the Gateshead One Mile on September 10th and she is in very good form as she approaches it……“I was happy with the run; conditions weren’t great so we didn’t go with the pace, making it a tactical race. I was pleased with how I ran, I waited until the last 200m and tried to kick away. It was my last track race, I now have the 5th Avenue Mile in New York on 3rd September and the Great North Mile on the 10th September before I take a rest.”
Rob Warner was also out at Stretford in a 1500m Race coming home in a seasons best time of 3.54.52, taking 5th place in a field of thirteen athletes……“Quite happy with the 1500 last night. I’ve had a decent couple of races after an awful race at the last Tuesday meet at Trafford in running 1:56 for the 800 the next day at Watford and then 3:54 last night! The 2nd lap slowed down a lot and I ended up doing a 61, followed by 65 so I was down by about 3 seconds through 800 which wasn’t great! Managed to finish quite strongly and do a 45 last 300 which I was happy with and definitely think a pb is there in a better paced race!”
Lancaster Half-Marathon – August 21st
A pretty miserable and windy day greeted the one hundred and twenty runners as they lined up for the Lancaster Half. Among them were Blackburn Harriers Carly Edwards Carly ran really very well in the windy conditions to finish 35th in a time of 1.37.32 and a new PB by three minutes as well as being 3rd Woman. Carly told the Club after the Race that she “was fairly familiar with some of the route as I have done the Trimpell 20. My training has been going well so I felt confident that I could do well. The conditions weren’t the best but it’s the same for everyone so you just have to make the best of it. It was extremely windy in parts. I am very happy with my performance and would like to thank the coaches down at Blackburn Harriers for helping me become a faster and stronger runner”.
Rachel Jones (V45) who runs for the Harriers on the Track, raced today for her first claim Club Salford Harriers had a cracking race placing 5th overall and won the prize for the 1st Woman in a time of 81.43. Whoever said age is a barrier, Rachel wasn’t listening. Great running and puts her 3rd in the National V45 Rankings.

V45 Paul Wilkinson was also having a run out finishing 41st in a time of 53.16.
And finally, something to make your heart melt, something that helps to tell all those Coaches out there that what they do is all so very worthwhile. 10yr old Shamiso Dzichauya with a smile that could launch ships joined the Club in March 2016. Last week as we prepared to take the Junior Endurance Group for their session, Shamiso came in to tell us that her family were moving to Sheffield and that she wouldn’t be able to come down any more. She gave us this Card:
