Great North Run with Victoria – Throwers competing in Liverpool & Wigan – Wins & PB’s at Blackpool Open Meeting – Mark runs the Yorkshireman
Great North Run – September 10th
It’s not often you get to run in a Race with 57000 runners but that’s exactly where Victoria Mousley was last weekend in the Great North Half-Marathon where she finished 24th overall in the Women’s Race in a time of 85.32. Given that Victoria went into the race on top of a period of ill-health, her time was an exceptionally good one.
After the Race Victoria told the Club that “It was an amazing experience today. I’d been ill for the last 6weeks. 2 chest infections, perforated ear drum, ear infection and then a bad stomach from all the antibiotics. I wasn’t even convinced I was going to do it till Thursday this week. It was brilliant running with space and being on my own for most of the race… Except for the crowds. For 12.5 miles there are thousands of people cheering and clapping. I haven’t done the gnr since I was 18 but the atmosphere hasn’t changed. I was disappointed with my time as I was hoping for 82 mins. But I had a great day, I’ve already booked the accommodation for next year and I’ll make a better job of it”.
V40 Daniel Whittaker also ran the race finishing in 1305th position with a time of 1hr 33.10 – going through 5k in 20.06, 10k in 42.07 and 15k in 64.15.
Liverpool Throws & Jumps Meeting – September 9th
Arnold Seddon Open Medal Meeting – Wigan September 10th
Jacob Roberts and Charlotte Williams were competing in their final competition of the season at the annual Liverpool Throws and Jumps Meeting. U20 Jacob finished the day with a throw of 64.28m in the Hammer (6kg) just a metre short of his personal best. Charlotte placed 3rd in her Hammer event (3kg) out of twelve with a throw of 51.63m. Been a great season for these two young Hammer Throwers which has ended with Jacob being 4th in the National Rankings (65.64m) and Charlotte 2nd with 60.53m.

Blackpool Open medal Meeting – Sunday September 10th
The busy weekend which had started with ninety Harriers competing in the Relays on Saturday continued on Sunday with thirty Blackburn Harriers turning out at the Blackpool Open Meeting in Stanley Park.
Good to see a good number of U11 boys and girls competing with twelve of them entering the Sprints Events. Harrison Allcock kicked the day off with a 3rd place 11.8 in Heat (1) of the 80m followed by Nathan Ashworth in Heat (3) also 3rd in 13.8. Eight U11 Girls all lined up for the 80m which saw Lucy Rishton take 2nd in 12.3 and Isabelle Hartley 7th with a time of 14.0 in Heat (1). Heat (2) had Niamh Gater in 2nd (13.0), Molly Grinshaw 5th in 14.1 and Alisha Lehner 6th (14.3). Heat (3) had four Harriers competing with Tilly Pollard in 3rd (13.9), Sophia Tsykunova 4th in a time of 14.2, Imogen Robinson (5th) clocking 14.3 and Tippi Francis 8th in 15.6. In the Middle Distance Events some of the athletes – as in the Sprint events – were running over these distances for the first time and some had run on the Saturday in the Road Relays. U11 Matthew Smith won Heat (1) of the 600m in a time of 2.00.4 and in Heat (2) Findlay Carroll ran 2.15.1 in 7th spot with Nathan Ashworth in 8th (2.24.3). Five U11 Girls ran in the 600m which saw Lucy Rishton emulate the boys by winning her Heat (1) in 2.06.1 being backed up by Isabelle Hartley in 3rd (2.08.6), Niamh Gater just behind in 4th (2.12.3), Molly Grimshaw one place further back in 5th (2.16.1) and Tilly Pollard in 8th posting a time of 2.25.4. In the U15 Boys 800m the boys were feeling the effects of the Road Relays on Saturday as George Whittaker ran 2.45.8 (7th) in Heat (1) with Isaac Butler clocking 2.36.8 (3rd) and Codie Dewhurst 2.59.0 (7th) in Heat (2). In the U13 Girls there were good runs from Abigail Stratton in the 800m coming home in 2nd spot and clocking a new PB time of 2.51.2 and for Paige Singleton who also ran a new PB in 4th place (3.04.6) with sister Ellie Singleton in 5th in a time of 3.11.0. Saul Sharp posted 5.56.0 in the U13 Boys 1500m whilst Sophie Stanworth won the U15 Girls 1500m in a time of 5.21.1.
Morgan Angland was competing in her final track race before going off to University – she clocked 16.5 in the 100m Hurdles running solo which wasn’t bad given that the conditions were also pretty poor. U13 Boys Ben Boocock and Codie Dewhurst were in the 75m Hurdles along with the U15 Girls Myah Booth and Christie Sturgess. Myah won the Race in 12.5 with Christie 3rd in 14.7. Ben’s time of 13.5 made him the winner of the U13 Boys with Codie 2nd in a time of 17.8 and a new PB.
In the Throws Anna Peers finished the season in good style winning the senior Women’s Shot Putt with a throw of 10.13m and the Javelin with 37.28m before rounding off her day with a 2nd placed throw of 33.68m in the Discus. Mark Wilkin had been looking forward to running this Race – won by Owen Beilby in 3hr 26.50 – which isn’t your usual road based Marathon. His first time ever over this distance V50 Mark completed the Course in 5hr 42.22 and afterwards told the Club that it was his “First ever marathon, and hardest physical challenge ever! Felt the hills as only trained up to a flattish half due to sore foot. Was very chuffed to complete it”.
