Jess Warner-Judd lined up in the 5000m at the ISATF Meeting held in Berlin on Sunday September 3rd  – a race won by Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey in a blistering time of 14.08.79 from Winnie Jemutai in 2nd (14.56.99) and Edinah Jebitok in 3rd (15.01.97. Jess took 7th place on the night with a seasons best time of 15.04.01. (RESULTS). Just five days later and with more traveling, Jess lined up in the Diamond League Meeting held in Brussels. Off the back of a seasons best in Berlin, Jess had a brilliant race, coming home in 8th position with a new PB time of 14.51.53 – a nearly six second improvement on her previous personal best. (RESULTS). After the race Jess commented on her social media “Has been a tough turnaround from Budapest but so happy to finish this season on a high! After a rocky start, managing to get two British titles, an Olympic QT and a top 8 in the world is something I will never take for granted, this sport is bloody hard so I’m going to enjoy this off season!”

Heaton Park was the venue for this years North West Road Relays held on what can only be described as a very warm day with temperatures up at around 27 degrees. Blackburn Harriers fielded teams in every age category, totalling 72 athletes and winning 7 Lancashire Team titles, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze Lancashire Medals.

The Senior Men’s relay had five teams competing for the Harriers with the A team invloved in a very competitive race between themselves, Liverpool Harriers, Salford  Harriers and Vale Royal – Vale Royal coming out as winners with a combined time of 51.21, followed by Salford (51.34) and Blackburn Harriers (Matt Ramsden, Ben Makin, Luke Betts, Daniel Bebbington) taking 3rd spot with 51.38. Matt Ramsden on Leg 1 ran the fastest time of the day for the 4.2k course of 12.19 only to see that bettered by Daniel Bebbington – who had run the British Mile Road Running Championships the night before in Newcastle and traveled straight back for the Relays – on the final leg as he clocked 12.17. 108 teams featured in the Senior Mens resulting in our teams placing 1st Lancashire team and 3rd overall alongside team mates James Bretherton (14.32), Dominic Walton (14.16), Dexta Thompson (14.16), Stephen Walter (14.33) in 27th & 7th Lancashire team —  Chris Davies (14.34), Richard Addy (14.36), Jonny Murphy (14.30) and Nick Gaskell (14.34), just six seconds separating the four athletes as they placed 33rd overall and 8th Lancashire team — David Almond (15.18), Danny Maynard (15.44), Codie Dewhurst (15.03), Hayden Mercer (15.16) in 52nd overall and 13th Lancashire Team — John Chaplin (17.37), Umair Rafiq (15.44) and Thomas Monks (16.45) as a part team.

The Senior Women fielded four teams which saw them win the Lancashire Title, taking Silver in 2nd place along with 5th and 11th placed finishes in the Lancashire results. Emily Jemutai Cheruiyot with the fastest leg of the day for the Club (15.29) followed by Isabel Holt (15.39) and Louisa Powell-Smith (16.42) took the Lancashire Gold medal and 7th overall,  followed by the Silver Medal winning team of Ellen Sagar-Hesketh (16.51), Keira Haxton (16.51) and Evie Taylor (16.36) and 16th overall. In 30th position overall and 5th team in Lancashire came Rebecca Ward (17.58), Katie Buckingham (17.42) and Leah Hoole (18.21) as our fourth team in 57th place overall and 11th Lancashire Team were Lindsay Davies (21.59), Sarah Krige (20.25) and Eleesha Charnley (17.01).

Our U17 Men continued winning medals as they finished in Gold and Silver Medal places in the Lancashire competition and 3rd and 9th respectively overall. Daniel Smith got off to a flyer, posting the 2nd fastet Leg of the day in 13.41 with team mates Oliver Gill running 14.43 and Ben Stratton 14.09 to take the Lancashire title with their team mates Jack Lamb (14.25), Logan McCredie (14.47) and George Ramsden (16.15) taking the Silver Medal. The U17 Women’s team of Charlotte Robertshaw (7.37), Isabella Pacelli (8.22) and Freya Neild (8.58) placed 8th overall and 1st lancashire team.

Henry Ward was running his first Relay for the Harriers and got the team off to a great start running 6.51 on the first leg with Alex Rothwell posting a time of 7.18 on Leg 2 and Sam Aspey 6.53 on the last Leg which saw the lads take the Lancashire Gold Medal and place 5th overall. Theo Robinson (7.44), George Holman (8.03) and Thomas Falencki (8.00) placed 16th overall and 3rd Lancashire team which saw them receive a Bronze Medal whilst Max Belshaw, like Thomas Falencki were competing for the first time for the club – Max posting the fastest time – 7.18 – on his own in a 3rd part team. The U15 Girls team matched the Boys and won the Lancashire Gold Medal and 5th overall with Lottie Hesketh on Leg 1 (8.21), Emma Robersthaw (8.10) on Leg 2 and Agatha Taylor finishing on Leg 3 with a time of 7.43. Our second team placed 12th overall and 4th Lancashire team which had Lottie Smith on Leg 1 (8.25), Lyra Krige on Leg 2 (8.45) and Bella MCredie on the fimal Leg with a time of 8.21. The Club had a part team too which saw Evie Fort run 8.43 on Leg 1 and Isabelle Perry in her first race for the Club post a time of 9.11 on the second Leg.

The U13 Girls team of Millie Jordan (7.47), Charlotte Smith (8.46) and Hetty Green (10.05) came 15th overall and 4th Lancashire team – Ansh Nama being the only U13 Boy running on the day which saw him run a time of 8.43. There was some expectation around the U11 Boys team of Theo Addy, and Morgan Watson that they could get themselves into a medal winning position – and they did – placing 3rd overall and winning the Lancashire Gold Medal as Theo ran 5.39 on Leg 1, Oliver 5.27 on Leg 2 and Morgan with a time of 5.26 on the final Leg made sure the lads took the Lancashire title. Also running in a part team was Jacob Newton – in his first ever race for the Club – posting a time of 7.14 with Anay Nama running a time of 7.19. The U11 Girls had seven youngsters from the Club’s Sportshall Group, making up two full teams and a part team. The first team finished 31st team overall and 3rd Lancashire team which earned tham a Bronze Medal as Amelia Pacelli ran 5.52 on the first Leg, Sophie Douglas (6.37) on the second and Esme Krige 8.21 on the final Leg. Team two saw Ruby Naylor run 8.36 on the first Leg with Pippa Blackburn on Leg 2 (6.58) and Esme Watson 6.59 on the last Leg. Ruby Stirzaker-Philips ran the first Leg in a time of 7.02. Well done to all these young girls who were experiencing competition for the first time and to the U11 Boys who also, for the most part, hadn’t been involved in this kind of competition previously.

Three days, three Pole Vault competitions for Holly Bradshaw to finish off her season, starting off in Locarno, Switzerland on the 3rd September, Bellinzone, Switzerland on the 4th September and then on the 6th in Rovereto, Italy.

The same day of the North West Road Relays –  Saturday September 9th – saw Southport & Waterloo AC hosting their Open meeting in gloriously warm sunny weather. (FIELD RESULTS) — (TRACK RESULTS)

Quite a number of Blackburn Harriers competed here in one of the last Open T&F Meetimngs of the season.Some good results at Litherland today. It was a particularly good day for U15 Loucas Lancashire as he came 3rd  in the Javelin, and was “over the moon with his end of season throw” as he smashed his previous personal best to set a new PB distance by over 5m of 33.85m.  In the U17 Men’s Javelin, Oliver Palk set a new PB in the Javelin (700g) adding over 2m to his previous best with a distance of 46.98m as he won. Also in the Javelin, U17 Isabelle Hartley won her event with a throw of 18.91m He then followed that up with a throw of 17.69m in the Discus (2nd) as Sarah Henton won the senior women’s Discus competition with a throw of 35.04m. U15 Tamzin Osborne won the Pole Vault event with a clearance of 2.41m before going to to set a new PB in the High Jump clearing 1.47 in winning the contest. In the U13 Girls Long Jump featuring 11 athletes, Dana Juma (U13) finished in 3rd spot with a leap of 3.77m and was just outside her personal best in winning the Shot Putt competition with 8.24m. In the Senior Men’s Long Jump, Samuel Mutombo (U20) placed 2nd with a leap of 5.66m as U17 Daniel Nuttall won the U17 men’s Long Jump with a jump of 5.82m.

On the Track Blackburn Harriers sprinters ended the day in good style winning the U17’s  Mixed 4 x 100m in a time of 45.62. U17 Millee Schofield was in good form as she won the 200m in 26.3 alongside U17 team mates Alisha Lehner and Isabelle Hartley – Alisha winning the U17 200m race in 29.4 with Isabelle in 3rd clocking 31.0. Alisha later on in the day took 2nd place in the 80m Hurdles clocking 13.4. Charlie Unsworth was a comfortable winner of the U17 Men’s 200m in a time of 22.6 with U17 Charlie Palich in 3rd clocking 23.8 for a new PB by two tenths, U17 Daniel Nuttall in 4th spot (23.9 and U20  Samuel Mutombo 5th with a 24.2 clocking – just one tenth outside his best. Moving on to the 400m U17 Oliver Palk ran 54.7 in 2nd spot. In the 100m Dana Juma ran 14.3 in the U13 Girls 100m (3rd), equaling her personal best before the U17 Men’s 100m which saw the Harriers take the first three places – Charlie Unsworth winning in 11.2, Daniel Nuttall in 2nd with a time of 11.5 and Charlie Palich in 3rd with a massive new PB – knocking 4 tenths off – as he set a new PB of 11.7. Making it two wins out of 2 on the day, U17 Millee Schofield took the 100m in 12.7 with U17 Isabelle Hartley in 4th place (14.9). In a mixed 100m race featuring U17’s and senior men, U17 Henry Harwood was just one tenth shy of his personal best as he placed 2nd in a time of 12.2 and in the same race it was good to see Benjamin Whittaker back out racing after such a long time – running a time of 12.5 in 4th place.

Well over three hundred runners took part in the Hatters Half-Marathon on Sunday September 10th – a race won by Harley Henshaw in 75.54, with Robin Hulme in 2nd (77.18) and Andrew Steele in 3rd ( 80.25). (RESULTS).  Blackburn Harriers Charlotte Atkinson had a good run in the very warm conditons clocking 1hr 39.08 in 4th place in the Women’s race which was won by Cara Bradley (1hr 31,58).

And finally whilst we are on Half-Marathons – a big shout out to John Aspey along with niece Rachael who took on the Great North Run on Sunday September 10th for a very good cause – completing the run and raising over £1000.00 for the British Thyroid Foundation.
