Mid Lancs League – Saturday 30th April

No let up in the weather, but no less enthusiasm given the number of athletes turning out to compete at the second fixture in this years Mid Lancs T & F League at Witton Park Arena. Even in these less than ideal conditions, the Harriers still produced a string of new PB’s, saw youngsters competing either for the first time ever or the first time in a particular event.

The first event of the day – Hammer – saw U17 Jacob Roberts improve his PB even further with a throw of 66.65m, a throw which broke his own Club Record. Elsewhere in the Throws saw Anthony Kent (U17) reach 9.58m in the Shot Putt (5th), 40.47m in the Hammer (3rd) and 30.35m in the Discus (3rd). New member Leon Spink threw 6.07m in the Shot Putt – Lucas Davies achieved 22.71m in the Discus and 24,82m in the Javelin. In the Senior Throws Connor Davison set a new PB using the senior weight in the Shot Putt -6th- ( 8.27m), threw 19.08m in the Discus (4th) and 26.46m in the Javelin (2nd). Tony Balko placed 3rd in Discus with 27.14m and another 3rd in the Hammer (33.37m). U17 Sam Pearson-Moore finished in 4th place in the Javelin with 35.57m. In the U15 Throws Alex Bernstein had a good day placing 2nd in the Shot Putt (8.36m), winning the Discus with 27.55m and the Hammer also with a new PB of 37.07m. New member Cameron Harris had an equally good day setting a new PB in the Discus by 4 metres when he threw 24.80m (2nd) and taking another 2nd place in the Javelin with 30.13m.

In the U13 Throws – Kyle Taylor-Pomfret set a new PB in the Shot Putt with 5.6m (9th), just missed out another PB in the Discus finishing 2nd with (13.04m) and again narrowly missing out in the Javelin with 21.72m (8th). In the U13 Girls there was a win for Nicky Saunders in the Javelin with 13.30m – whilst in the U15 Girls Throws, Abigail Brown in her first ever competition threw 13.80m in the Javelin and 15.66m in the Discus and yet another newcomer to the event – Danielle Probert – threw 12.05m for 3rd place. In the Shot Putt it was Liberty Thompson representing the Harriers, throwing 5.10m.

Due to a change in the timetable this year, the Track side of things set off with the 100m instead of the 800m. Dominic Bretherton and Jake Almond went off in separate Heats of the Senior Men’s Race with Dominic placing 2nd in 11.80m into an headwind and Jake 3rd in his Heat, also with 11.80sec. John Ilunga ran 13.50 in Heat one.  Ben Whittaker contested the U15 Boys 100m placing 4th in 13.90 and then ran 29.50 in the 200m. In the U13 Race Thomas Bacon ran 15.50 with Rory Teare running 16.60 in his Heat.

In the Women’s Sprints  Hayley Candler ran 14.70 in the Senior 100m and 29.40 in the 200m whilst Liberty Thompson ran 32.10 in the U15’s 200m. Leah Hoole ran in the U13 100m taking 3rd spot in 15.90 which was her first ever attempt over the distance whilst Ella Hardman, also new to competition, ran 32.30 in the U13 Girls 200m. Eleesha Charnley ran in the 200m which was her first attempt at the distance and came home in 2nd place with 29.90.

In the Jumps John Ilunga equaled his High Jump PB of 1.65m in the Senior event, whilst Ben Whittaker cleared 4.11m in the U15 Long Jump (8th) and Jamie Teare cleared 1.35m in the High Jump. George Whittaker, setting a new PB and Rory Teare entered the U13 Boys Long Jump finishing 3.88m (5th) and 3.58m (9th) respectively. Rory then earned a 5th place with 1.30m in the High Jump. Nicky Sauders cleared 1.10m in the U13 Girls High Jump, whilst in the U13 Girls Long Jump – contested by 30 athletes – Emma Lowe placed 10th with 3.65m, Eleesha Charnley 20th (3.37m) and Leah Hoole 23rd (3.07m). Another new member competing for the first time was Jess Wilson (U15) clearing 1.20m in the High Jump.

In the longer distance Races, Senior Tim Raynes chalked up a win in the 3000m with a time of 9.11.60 – his first ever 3000m on the Track and then in the 1500m, placed 2nd with a new PB of 4.18.40. Andy Buttery (V45) took 4th place in 9.50.80. In the Senior Women’s 3000m – Christina Singleton – the Trawden athlete who is running for the Harriers on the Track, comfortably won her race with a time of 10.55.00. There was cracking run by Jamie Teare, who is another of the Club’s bottom of age U15’s, in the 3000m where he ran a debut time of 10.31.60.

It was a new PB for bottom of age U15 Leon Thomas in the 800m when he ran 2.26.80 whilst another bottom of age U15 Matt Ramsden ran 4.52.80 for 3rd place in the 1500m, a distance which he had never raced before. U13 Ethan Barbarewicz set a new PB in the 800m, knocking 2 seconds off his previous best, placing 5th with a time of 2.44.30. U15 Liberty Thompson ran 2.50.00 in the 800m whilst there was a new PB for bottom of age Amy Davies in the U15 Girls 1500m where she placed 2nd in 5.13.40. All of these times were achieved in less than perfect conditions with wind as well as cold playing a big part in the racing environment. Then the girls went and entered a Relay Team finishing 4th in the 4 x 100m (63.60). In the U13 Girls 800m Ella Hardman ran 3.01.50 in Heat One along with Danielle Probert in 7th place (3.15.00) and Eleesha Charnley 2.42.20 in Heat Two. U13 Hollie Cubbon made it the fourth new PB in this section of the day when she ran 5.31.90 in the 1500m, a whopping ten seconds off her previous best time; And in the same Heat, Leah Hoole tackled the distance for the first ever time and running a solid time of 5.49.60.
