Congratulations to Blackburn Harriers U20 Abigail Stratton who has been selected to represent Great Britain in the 1500m at the European Junior Championships being held in Jerusalem between the 7th and 10th August. The official announcement can be read (HERE).

Abby, as she is affectionately known in the Club, has had a very good year as part of a successful squad of athletes coached by Noel Finucane. Among her achievments this year she has won the Northern Indoor 1500m Championships (4.34.23); the Lancashire County 1500m Championships (4.32.7); England Indoor U20 1500m Championships (4.31.28); BMC Grand Prix – World Athletics Challenger (4.20.32); Northern U20 800m Championships (2.09.27) and these wins were just part of a very successful year for her, posting new personal bests at 400m, 800m and 1500m – culminating in deservedly winning her first international vest. No slouch either on cross country having won the Lancashire Schools, finishing 14th at English Schools and selected to compete for Lancashire at the Inter-Counties. On the Road she was part of the Gold Medal winning team at the Northern Women’s 6-Stage held at Redcar. Her selection for the GB team demonstrates what can be achieved by athletes who are geared to consistent, dedicated training and racing, always looking to improve, coupled with belief and strength of character.
