EIS at Sheffield hosted a BMC Indoor meeting at the weekend – Sunday January 7th – covering 800m, 1500m and 3000m races. U20 Dexta Thompson took on the 1500m. Coming into the race Dexta had an indoor personal best time of 3.59.36 and an outdoor best time of 3.56.45. Running a well judged race Dexta finished in 2nd place with a new PB by some two seconds of 3.54.33.
Still Indoors for the second of this years Winter Indoor Series which took place at Sportcity at the weekend on Sunday January 7th, featuring a number of Blackburn Harriers. (RESULTS). U17 Sami Butt was the first one out in the 60m – his first time over the distance indoors and had a good run to clock 8.06 in 4th spot. U17 Connie Humes was the next athlete over the 60m, also her first time indoors at 60m, placing 3rd in her Heat in a time of 9.33 before going on to run 31.12 in her 200m Heat placing 3rd. U20 Samuel Mutombo ran his first 60m of this indoor season coming home in 3rd spot in a time of 7.52. Going up in distance – to 600m – U20’s Thomas Monks and Codie Dewhurst along with Senior John iLunga went in the same Heat – Thomas equaling his personal best with a time of 1.26.43 in 3rd position, Codie setting a new PB by over a second as he clocked 1.26.94 in 5th with John just missing a new personal best coming home in 6th place in a time of 1.42.67.
For some athletes, running the County Cross Championships in plenty of mud over 10k would have been enough, however, Ben Fish decided that he would race back to back and after placing 10th in the County Championships and part of the Blackburn Harriers winning team at the Championships, he decided to have another race the day after – along with a 300 plus strong field in The Hit The Trail 5 Mile at Stockport. Setting off with intent, Ben led from the front to take the win in a time of 26.52, over a minute in front of 2nd placed Lewis Hinchcliffe (Saddleworth Runners) and Sophie Wood (Sale Harriers) in 3rd – and winner of the Women’s race – with a time of 28.04.
