Run EXE 5k Summer Series

Joe Monk went on holiday and didn’t forget his racing shoes when packing, fitting in two 5k Races whilst he was there in the first week. The first one was part of the RUN EXE Summer 5k Series.

The Race – featuring 110 runners and won by James Baker in 15.46 saw Joe in a great 3rd place with a time of 16.16, just three seconds off his PB and commented “had a lively holiday and tried a tourism race….reasonably happy…but looking for 16.05 at Catforth”.

Next Race up was the Exeter 5k Park Run just four days later featuring 172 runners and won by Phil Wylie in an impressive 15.07. Joe came 2nd in this Race in 16.47 which was a PB for him in the Park 5k Runs.

Sale Sizzler 5k – August 6th

Tim Raynes and Mick Leigh tackled this popular Race over 5k along with 497 other athletes all looking for PB’s on a good course. Tim had a real good run finishing 18th overall and in a time of 16.19 just eight seconds off his personal best. Mick took 78th place in 18.12 which is a new PB for him over the distance.

Badger 10k Trail Race – August 6th

Brian Fogarty following his top 12 finish in the British Ironman Championships a couple of weeks ago, was back racing at the Badger 10k Trail Race as was Paul Guinan who is steadily getting over a prolonged period of injuries.

One hundred and eighty eight runners lined up for this 10k which is reputed to be quite a tough course. Brian edged it on the night to finish 6th in 37.18 with Paul in 7th with a time of 37.44.

Boulsworth Fell Race – August 9th 

Gary Pearse lined up with one hundred and thirty three other runners in good conditions at the Boulsworth Fell Race and finished well up the field in 17th spot overall and 2nd V50 with a time of 48.36. This Race was part of the Burnley Grand Prix which saw Gary finish in the top ten for the overall Series and the winner of the V50 Category which is a cracking achievement.

Gary told the Club after the Race that “Note the dubious photos at Boulsworth, photogenic could never be used in that context. Had quite a strong descent in that one so pleased and it was the final Grand Prix race so really chuffed with sneaking in the top ten for the series, best of 9 from13, and coming first in the v50 category. Always a tough series to recover and stay constant after the Peaks but did ok”.
