The Northern Inter-Counties U15/U17 T&F Championships took place at York on Saturday May 27th in wondeful sunny weather. Lancashire were up against County Teams from Yorkshire, Derbyshire, North East, Gt. Manchester, Merseyside, Cumbria, Lincolnshire, Cheshire & Humberside. The final placings saw Yorkshire take the title folowed by (2) North East; (3) Gt. Manchester; (4) Derbyshire; (5) Lancashire; (6) Merseyside; (7) Cumbria; (8) Humberside; (9) Lincolnshire; (10) Cheshire. (Event Results). Seventeen athletes from Blackburn Harriers were selected to compete for the County…….U15’s Jack Duxbury; Agatha Taylor; Charlie Clanford; Sam Aspey; Leila Pilkington; Harry Pilkington; Tamzin Osborne; U17’s Millee Schofield; Charles Unsworth; Daniel Nuttall; Ben Stratton; George Ramsden; Daniel Smith; Jack Lamb; Alisha Lehner; Isabella Pacelli; Logan McCredie. Lancashire Team Manager Sarah Scott.told the Club that it was “A huge performance all athletes from Blackburn! Everyone worked to the maximum, with the most amazing finishes!Superb camaraderie across the team! Thank you for an amazing day!!

In the individual U15 events events, Blackburn Harriers athletes recorded the following performances;-  Charlie Clanford clocked 25.14. in 2nd spot in the 200m Heat 2;  Agatha Taylor placed 3rd in the 800m Heat 2 with 2.19. 86; Leila Pilkington & Agatha Taylor were part of the U15 G 4 x 100 Relay team which came 4th (53.81);  Sam Aspey came 7th in the 3000m with a time of 9.38.30;  Leila Pilkington was 11th in the Discus (17.52m);  Tamzin Osborne cleared 2.40m in the Pole Vault for 5th place; Jack Duxbury leapt out to 4.43m in 15th spot in the Long Jump; Harry Pilkington threw 26.76m in the Discus (7th) and 8.61m in the Shot Putt (9th); Jack Duxbury and Charlie Clanford were part of the U15 B 4 x 100m Relay team placing 2nd in a time of 48.05.

In the U17 competitions Millee Schofield Heat 3 clocked 12.6 in the 100m (2nd); Charles Unsworth was also 2nd Heat 1 in the 100m (11.27); Daniel Nuttall won his 100m race Heat 3 in 11.41; Oliver Palk clocked 53.55 in Heat 2 of the 400m; Ben Stratton ran in Heat 1 of the 800m placing 7th in 2.01.51; George Ramsden in Heat 2 of the 800m ran 2.10.21 (6th); Daniel Smith won the 1500m final in a time of 4.07.10 which was a big new PB by some five seconds; Jack Lamb placed 5th in the 3000m clocking 9.33.90; Alisha Lehner took 4th position in the 80m Hurdles (12.79); Charles Unsworth, Daniel Nuttall & Logan McCredie were part of the U17 Men’s Medley Relay finishing 6th in a time of 3.56.04.

Still on the Track and on Tuesday night – May 30th – it was the latest in the Trafford Grand Prix Series which had Sam Hodkinson and Evie Taylor from the Harriers racing over 1500m. Sam who was runningn his first 1500m race since 2021 went in Heat 5 along with 11 other athletes and had a fine run to set a new PB in winning the race in a time of 4.23.08. Evie went in Heat 7 – in a field of 13 – coming home in 6th spot after a fine run a nd a new PB by six seconds.

On the same day as the T&F Champs, senior Blackburn Harriers athletes were out on the road at the Catforth 10k Catforth 5k – Nick Gaskell and Ellen Sagar-Hesketh won by Red Rose athlete Simon Croft in a time of 16.19. Nick was runner up in a time of 17.13 and 1st V50 with team mate Ellen Sagar-Hesketh 2nd (19.13) in the Women’s race behind Carla Davies (17.38) and 8th spot overall.
