UKYDL Division 1 – Saturday May 19th
Round 2 of this years Lower Age Group Division 1 in the UKYDL took place in glorious sunshine at Trafford and eagerly awaited by the Harriers after winning the first match by 27.5 points from Crewe & Nantwich AC in 2nd place – the places were reversed in this fixture with Crewe pipping the Harriers in by 24 points in another very tight contest…….All of which means that as we look forward to Match 3 at Trafford on July 16th, the Harriers are top of the Division by just 3.5 points. What a great contest.
The consistency of the athletes throughout the full day was a joy to see – featuring as it did – twenty four wins, twenty two 2nd and eighteen 3rd places. Inter-Counties Fell Championships – Saturday May 19th
Blackburn Harriers Chris Arthur and Steven Snape were both selected to run for Lancashire in the Inter-Counties Fell Championships at Crowden at the weekend – both finishing up as counters with Chris taking 3rd place overall and winning Individual Bronze in a time of 46.40 and Steven finishing 25th overall in 49.48. The race was won by Nick Swinburn in 44.37 with Lancashire just missing out on a Team Medal – placing 4th with 48 points, the counters being (1) Chris Arthur, (2) Rob Hope, (3) Steven Snape.
After the Championship Race finished both Harriers spoke to the Club about the day with Chris Arthur commenting“Another tough day in the heat left me feeling below par but very happy with 3rd behind Max and Nick who were absolutely flying. This was my last race in Lancs vest and it’s been a privilege to run with the team. Both the men and women’s teams had great runs but unfortunately just missed out on the medals. Special mention has to go to Cal Davidson for racing on a knackered ankle, which unsurprisingly didn’t go altogether smoothly!” and Steven Snape telling us “Fantastic day out representing Lancashire in the inter counties fell championships. I felt good on the climbs but ran out of steam a bit near the end with the heat. Definitely more beer garden weather than racing but another great day on the fells”.
