The weather stayed relatively good all weekend at Middlesborough – the venue for this years Northern T&F Championships for U13, U15 and U17 age group athletes. (Day 1 RESULTS) — (Day 2 RESULTS). The weekend turned out to be a pretty good one for the Harriers with five Gold Medals, two Bronze Medals medals in sprints, middle distance and pole vault being won over the two days along with ten new personal bests and 2 new Club Records being set.

Caris Peter-Thomas set the tone for the weekend going in to the 100m with a best time of 12.90, she won her Heat 4 in a time of 13.10. In the Final she chopped over two tenths off her personal best to set a new PB of 12.67 in winning and taking the title as well as breaking her own club record. Moving on to the 200m on the same day, Caris had a personal best of 26.6 and set a new PB straight away as she won her Heat 1 in a time of 26.41. In the Final she lowered that by nearly four tenths to set another new PB – and again – broke her own club record in winning her 2nd title of the weekend. Added to these new personal best and Club Records, her times move her to number 2 in the National Rankings for both 100m and 200m.

Moving up in age category to the U17 sprints which had Charlie Unsworth and Daniel Nuttall doubling up in the 100m and 200m in the Men’s, Millie Schofield doubling up in the 100m and 200m alongside team mate Alisha Lehner who ran the 200m as well as the 80m Hurdles.

Charlie Unsworth had a great weekend going in to the championships with best times of 11.1 and 22. 2 for the 100m and 200m. In Heat 4 of the first round in the 200m on Day 1 he clocked 22.91 in winning as did team mate Daniel who also clocked 22.91 which was a new PB by over four tenths. In the semi-final Charlie took another win in qualifying for the final clocking 22.36 with Daniel running 23.37 to just miss out on the final. In the Final Charlie had his best ever run setting a new PB by a massive four tenths to win the title in a time of 21.82. Millee placed 2nd in Heat 3 of the U17 Women’s 100m clocking 12.67 almost replicating that time again in the Final with 12.69 in 7th place.

Day 2 and it was 100m for the U17 Men and 200m for the U17 Women. Four Heats in the Men’s 100m resulting in Daniel winning Heat 2 in 11.58 and Charlie winning Heat 3 in 11.31. Both were drawn in the first of two semi-finals – Charlie taking the win in a new PB of 11.05 and Daniel placing 3rd (11.40) – both qualifying for the final. Charlie replicated his form in the final by taking the win and the title in a new PB time of 10.94 alongside Daniel who clocked his fastest time of the three rounds of 11.33 in 6th spot. Charlie not only set new PB’s but broke his own 200m Club Record and sits at equal 4th in the National Rankings over 200m. Millee and Alisha were drawn in Heat 1 and 2 of the U17 Women’s 200m – Millee winning Heat 1 in a time of 25.60 with Alisha clocking 27.52 in Heat 2 (5th) which was a new PB. Millee clocked 26.08 in the Final in 8th spot. Alisha was also entered in the 80m Hurdles run in two Heats – clocking 13.04 in 5th spot in the second Heat which meant she didn’t qualify for the Final.

Congratulations to U15 Tamzin Osborne who after having just recently taken up Pole Vault won a Bronze Medal with a clearance of 2.50m which highlights her consistency in the event over the nine competitions she has been in this year so far –  clearing 2.40m four times, 2.45, 2.50m twice and a personal best of 2.60m.

On to the 1500m which was run as a straight Final and featured Blackburn Harriers Ben Stratton and Oliver Gill. Ben won the race with a fast finish on the home straight to take the title in a time of 4.12.92 with Oliver, in only his second 1500m race of the year. clocking a new PB by three seconds of 4.14.43 to hold of Lancasters James Brassington (4.14.52) to take the Bronze Medal. The U15 Boys 1500m was run in two Heats and a Final which saw Sam Aspey qualify with a new PB time of 4.24.92 in 4th place from Heat 1 and Jack Baranowski – an U13 running in the U15 age category – win Heat 2 in 4.19.30. In the Final Sam placed 8th in a time of 4.30.54.

Saturday evening at Trafford on August 12th was the venue for the BMC Grand Prix – World Athletics Challenge. (RESULTS). Blackburn Harriers Daniel Bebbington and Tim Raynes both entered the 5000m – Daniel going in the A Race which was stacked and Tim in the B Race. The A 5000m was won by Denmark’s Mikael Johnson (13.46.52) from Wirral’s Joe Wigfield in 2nd (13.46.83) amd George Wheeler in 3rd (13.47.78) – the first 12 all finishing under 14 minutes. Daniel went into the race with a personal best 5000m time of 14.31.86, having only ever run twice previously over the distance. On the night he had a great run, setting a new PB by a margin of 22 seconds with a time of 14.09.84. Tim went in to the B Race – won by Belgraves Samuel Gebreselassie in 14.25.55 – with a seasons best time of 14.55.01 – and ran within a couple of seconds from that, crossing the line in 14.56.42.

Results Round Up

There was a top five finish for Blackburn Harriers Marc Hartley on Saturday August 12th at the Boulsworth Fell race – (RESULTS) – the race being won by Barlick’s Jimmy Craig (44.48.2). Marc came home in 4th place with a time of 45.26.9. In the Junior Races, Theo Addy had a good run again to take the win  in a time of 7.50.4 and as a result, won the Series overall, so many congratulations to him. (RESULTS). Amelia Pacelli came home in 6th place in the U13 Girls race with a time of 8.32.5 – boys and girls running toegther in the U11 and U13 age category. In the U15/U17 Race Jack Wood finished in 3rd place overall in the race with a time of 17.27.7 – U15 Will Pease winning in 17.02.0. (RESULTS).

In the BOFRA Series at the Arncliffe Gala Fell Race – held on Saturday August 12th – Lottie Hesketh continued with her good form in these races, taking 2nd place in the U14 Race with a time of 11.03 in a tight finish with Holly Fitch (11.04) and Isabelle Jebb (11.05) – Keighley’s Bethan Buckley winning the race in 10.16. (RESULTS).
