The 2015 Lancashire Schools Cross Country Championships took place on Saturday February 7th on a cold day but with relatively good underfoot conditions as athletes battled to secure their selection for the English Schools Championships which will be held on the same course on March 14th.

The Harriers provided five of the 13 Senior Boys contesting this Race and saw Jack Hindle (South Ribble) finish 3rd in 27.43 – Joe Monk (South Ribble) 4th in 28.01 – Joe Campbell (Blackburn) 10th in 30.16 – Robert Buckley 11th (Blackburn) in 31.09 and Morgan Philips (Rossendale) 12th in 31.49. In the Senior GIrls Race featuring sixteen runners Katie Buckingham (Blackburn) took 5th place in 18.29.

Much bigger fields contested the Junior Girls with seventy four runners. Maddie Elliott (Blackburn) had a great run in this Race finishing 4th overall in 12.48 to the winning time of 12.11. Hannah Cookson (Hyndburn) also had a good run finishing 12th in 13.33. Emily Warren also running for (Hyndburn) took 21st spot with 14.09 followed by Natalya Irvine (Burnley) in 33rd in a time of 14.36 and Anna Lonsdale (Blackburn) 42nd in 15.07. In the Junior Boys Race Charlie Obank (Blackburn) placed 21st in 14.35 out of a field of 63 runners.

Cracking Race in the Inter Girls with Elizabeth Greenwood (Hyndburn) and Grace Handley (South Ribble) battling it out for the whole of the race only for Blyth Fourie to pip them both in the closing stages of the Race. Liz finished in 2nd place in 13.48 being out sprinted in the last few metres. Grace placed 3rd and had, like Liz, given everything. Megan Clarkson (Hyndburn) is having a great cross country season and took an excellent 4th position in 14.48 and she goes from strength to strength.

Another really good race in the Inter Boys with Josh Boyle (Hyndburn) making the early running in the 62 strong field. Josh finished in 3rd place in 19.37 after a real battle with eventual winner Matthew Barnes (19.17) and Jake Lonsdale (19.29). Byron Abbott (Blackburn) had a pretty solid run to take 13th in 20.55 and Nicholas Smith (Blackburn) came 42nd in 23.37 and given the same time as 41st in the Race.

In the Year 7 Boys with 78 runners – Matthew Ramsden (Blackburn) had a quality run taking 2nd place in 7.24 and just three seconds behind the winner. Just 3 places and 10 seconds behind came Jamie Teare (Hyndburn) in 5th spot (7.34). Anthony Beresford (Blackburn) took 44th place in 8.12, Jimmy Walpole (Blackburn) was just behind in 49th (8.16) and Daniel Brown (South Ribble) 56th in 8.26.

The biggest field of the day – in the Year 7 Girls Race with 87 runners – saw Amy Davies (Blackburn) win by 2 seconds holding off Erin Moffatt and Kirsty Hamilton from Lancaster which was a great run. Charlotte Collin (Blackburn) who joined the Harriers towards the end of 2014 finished 73rd in 9.52.
