Leeds was the venue for the BMC Meeting on Monday August 6th which had three Blackburn Harriers competing – U20’s Dexta Thompson and Thomas Monks in the 800m and senior Tim Raynes in the 3000m. (RESULTS). Dexta ran the B 800m placing 3rd in a time of 1.55.80 whilst Thomas ran the C race clocking 1.59.67 in 5th spot. In his first 3000m race of the season Tim finished 4th position in a time of 8.36.14.

U13 Jack Baranowski is taking all before him this season – top of the rankings in the 800m, 1200m and 1500m – and yesterday Sunday August 6th was no exception at the Trafford Open meeting. Competing in a field of seven, six of them U15’s, Jack took another win, clocking a new PB of 2.04.53 less than half a second outside the British record. U13 Isabelle Pawson who runs with a permanent smile on her face clocked 11.43 in 2nd spot in her Heat of the 75m, finished 3rd in her Heat of the 150m with a time of 22.81 and finished off the day taking part in the Long Jump which had 56 youngsters in four Pools – Isabelle placing 11th in her Pool with a jump of 3.44m. U15 Keir Michie took part in the sprints clocking 12.80 in 3rd place of Heat 2 of the 100m and 5th in Heat 1 of the 200m running 26.81. Jack Thompson had a good day with a new PB by two tenths in his Heat of the 100m placing 2nd in 13.30. U15 Evie Fort also ran the 100m in a time of 14.72 in 2nd place of Heat 6, followed  by a time of 30.84 in the 200m in 5th spot.

During the week, Matthew Heywood, just two weeks away from going to the US to start life at University there, travelled down to Alexandra Stadium in Birmingham to compete in the Birchfield Open meeting on August 2nd. Matthew threw a seasons best with the 7.26kg Hammer throwing a distance of 48.82m.

The day after – Thursday August 3rd, saw the latest Sale Sizzler 5k which was won by Sale’s Nicholas Barry in 15.00 from Thomas Charles in 2nd (15.02) and Rhodri Owen in 3rd (15.04).(RESULTS)

Two Blackburn Harriers in this one – Ellen Sagar-Hesketh and Charlotte Atkinson. The Women’s race was won by Leeds athlete Jennifer Walsh (17.01). Ellen got a top ten place finishing with a time of 19.09 (10th) with Charlotte running 20.13 for a seasons best in 23rd spot. (RESULTS).

Sunday August 6th and Mark Taylor got a late call to do another 70.3 triathlon just a week after competing in the Snowman Legend 70.3 – this time it was a trip to Northampton for the Cowman. The race consists of a 1900m swim, 90k bike ride and rounded off by a half-marathon run. Mark finished in 34th place overall and 6th in his age category 45 – 49 yrs. Posting a total time of 5hr 18.41 – consiting of 38.21 for the swim, 2hr 57 for the bike ride and 1hr 40.59 for the half-marathon split between road and trail, Mark was happy with his performance, hitting all of his tragets along the way. Out on the Fells on Sunday August 6th at the Worsthorne Moor Trail Race with one hundred and forty one finishers –  and it was a good run by V45 Louisa Powell-Smith who finished 2nd in the Women’s race in a time 49.11. (RESULTS). In the Junior races, there was another very good run from Theo Addy as he won the U11 race in a time of 6.58 ahead of Alexander Ball in 2nd (7.10) and Freddie Haworth in 3rd (7.11).  Amelia Pacelli competed in the U13 race posting a time of 13.05 coming home 5th in the female race. (RESULTS). Theo heads the U11 table after six races, the outcome decided by the best 5 scores from seven races.

Still on the Fells, this time at the Farleton Knott Fell Race run on Sunday August 6th which turned out to be a good day for U15 Lottie Hesketh as she won Girls race in a time of 11.53 from Wharfedale’s Holly Fitch in 2nd (12.07) and Bingley’s Isabelle Jebb in 3rd (12.13). (RESULTS)
