Tuesday July 11th started off with the threat of rain but turned out to be a warm and very good evening for racing at Trafford BMC and Grand Prix evening. (RESULTS). 17 Blackburn Harriers competed on the night resulting in three wins and eight new PB’s.

Sam Aspey was the first Harrier out in the first Heat of four U15 800m races, posting a new PB by just over a second of 2.08.75 in 7th spot.The U15 Races were followed by 3000m races – three of them – the first of which was won by Matt Ramsden in 8.40.22  – his third successive race and win over 5000m and 3000m following a lay off through injury. The second of the three races had Sam Hodkinson and Stephen Walter in the field – Sam knocking a huge 17 seconds off his previous best to set a new PB of 9.34.00 in 10th with Stephen in 11th place with a seasons best time of 9.34.9. The last of the 3000m races featured U20 Isabel Holt – another athlete coming back from injury clocking a seasons best time of 10.30.10 (10th) with her team mate U20 Evie Taylor knocking a full six seconds off her previous best to set a new PB mark of 10.39.98 in 13th.

In the 1500m Daniel Bebbington was doubling up after winning the 800m earlier and made it a double win as he took the race in 3.56.40 – Matt Ramsden decided to also double on the night after winning the 3000m and clocked 4.04.65 (11th) in his first 1500m race of the season. U17 Jack Lamb went in to his Heat of the 1500m with a personal best of 4.21.85 and made mincemeant out of that as he clocked a new PB by seven seconds – 4.14.02 – in 11th place.   Tim Raynes went in the BMC 1500m – another athlete returning from a lenghty spell injured – just missing a new personal best as he clocked a seasons best time of 3.56.84 in 6th spot. Heat 1 of the Open 800m had three Blackburn Harriers in the field of 8 – Daniel Bebbington racing after being at the British Championships at the weekend, taking the win in 1.52.44 alongside team mates David Holman in 4th with a seasons best of 1.54.67 and Dexta Thompson in 6th with a new PB time of 1.54.96.

U17 Ben Stratton and U20 Thomas Monks went in Heat 3 – Ben posting a new PB by close to two seconds in 3rd place (1.57.94) with Thomas running 1.59.92 in 5th place – his second successive sub 2 minute clocking at Trafford. Heat 4 had U17 Daniel Smith running his first sub 2 minute time – clocking 1.59.35 for a new PB in 4th place whilst in Heat 5 U20 Codie Dewhurst ran 2.01.99 in 4th position. Heat 7 had U17 George Ramsden clipped 2 tenths off his previous best to set a new PB of 2.08.35 in 5th place. Keira Haxton (U20) completed the 800m in 7th spot clocking 2.21.49.

At Pendle Town Schools Championships on Tuesday July 11th – Blackburn Harriers trio – Logan and Bella McCredie and Lottie Hesketh had a very good day –  Lottie winning the Junior 1500m. Bella winning the junior 800m, Long Jump and 2nd in 200m with Logan winning the inter 800m, 1500m and 2nd in long jump.
