The final fixture in the 2023/24 Manchester Indoor Open Meeting Series took place on Sunday March 10th at Sportcity (RESULTS). U17 Daniel Nuttall was first off in the 60m with a 7.32 clocking  in 5th spot in Heat 1 which comprised of U20 and Senior athletes – Daniel being the only U17.  Heat 3 saw U20 Samuel Mutombo clock 7.53 in 4th place as U20 Oliver Palk placed 2nd in Heat 4 with a time of 7.63. Heat 13 had U17 Charlie Palich coming home in 2nd place with a new PB time of 7.24 – an improvement by more than two tenths – and that was followed by another new PB, this time set by U17 Harvey Holden in Heat 14, as he placed 3rd in a time of 7.56 – again, an improvement by just over two tenths. Alisha Lehner (U17) was just outside her personal best as she clocked 8.70 (6th) in Heat 17 and then went and set herself a new PB in the 60m Hurdles clocking 9.74 in 4th spot.

U17 Millee Schofield smashed her 300m previous best by over half a second as she clocked a new PB time of 41.04 in winning her Heat of the 300m and that was followed in the next 300m Heat by another new PB by half a second set by U17 Sienna-Rose Wareing of 44.05 in winning her Heat too. After running the 60m Oliver Palk won his 300m Heat in a new PB time of 38.43 – an improvement of four tenths – and that was followed in the next Heat by another win, this time for Charlie Palich posting his second new PB of the day as he won the Heat in a time of 38.08, bettering his previous best by nearly a second and a half. Going up in distance to 600m with U20 Codie Dewhurst clocking 1.27.02 in 2nd place which was a fraction outside his personal best.

In the field events, U17 Harvey Holden was in a pool of 15 in the High Jump, of which four were U17’s which saw Harvery finish in 6th place overall and 2nd U17 with a clearance of 1.66m. In the second Pool U17 Tamzin Osborne cleared a seasons best 1.40m in 4th place overall and then went on to clear 2.73m in the Pole Vault – 5th overall and 3rd U17. Two Pools for the Long Jump featuring 45 athletes in total. Pool A had 28 competitiors from U13’s through to Seniors, one of which was U17 Sienna-Rose Wareing who was competing in her first Long Jump this year, going out to 4.32m in 6th place overall and 3rd U17. Also U20 Samuel Mutombo was competing in his first Long Jump of the year, leaping out to 5.67m in 3rd position overall and 2nd U20. The first and second in this Pool both jumped in excess of 7m.

Back on the road and this time up at Lancaster at the Power of 5k on Friday Match 8th (RESULTS). Paul Bradshaw led the Harriers athletes home on a course which was hardly free from wind in a good time of 16.14 to take a top ten 10 place (9th). Badr Alainzay was next home in 17th place with a time of 16.54 for a new PB by 10 seconds and just two places further back came V45 Richard Addy running a new PB by over a minute with his time of 17.02. Next through the finish line was Dominic Bretherton in 56th position running 19.53 with Leah Hoole in close contention in a time of 20.13 and 61st spot and a new PB by three seconds.

On March 3rd close to 1000 runners lined up for the Leicester 10k which was won by Notts AC athlete Anthony Woodward in 32.37. Blackburn Harriers V60 Peter Banks was in the race coming home in 88th place overall with a time of 39.43 and remarkably 8th in the V60 age category which was won by Bristol’s Phil Parry (37th) in 36.15. One week later, Peter was out again over the 10k distance, this time at the Mothers Day 10k running a time of 38.57 in 10th place over all and 2nd V60, the age group being won by Bingley’s John Convery in 36.19.
